Alex Trebek Clarifies His Comments About Stopping Cancer Treatment In New Memoir

Alex Trebek is clearing up any confusion fans might of had with his comments about continuing treatment for his cancer.

The 80-year-old host of Jeopardy! shared in his new memoir, “The Answer Is…Reflections on My Life” that he had planned to “stop treatment” if his quality of life worsened.

“I’m going to stick with this current protocol, then that’s it. If it doesn’t work I’ll probably stop treatment,” he wrote in the book.

However, that statement doesn’t seem to be true anymore.

“That quote from the book was written BEFORE my current regimen, and I was going through some bad times,” Alex explained in a tweet on the show’s feed. “My current numbers are very good, but we will have to be patient with this new immunotherapy program that I am on. But if we were to stop being successful, I would return to my previous chemo treatment—NOT stop all treatment.”

He continues, “I apologize for any confusion, and want everyone to know that I am optimistic about my current plan, and thank them for their concerns.”

Previously, Alex also spoke about the support of his family as he goes through chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer.

Alex Trebek Details How 'Jeopardy!' Is Being Filmed As Production Resumes

Jeopardy! was one of the many television shows to shut down production as the coronavirus pandemic swept over the nation.

In the past, five episodes of the competition quiz show have been filmed each day, with two days of taping every other week.

Now, that filming schedule is changing a bit, according to host Alex Trebek.

“We’ve redesigned our set to separate the contestants and myself a little bit more from them,” he shared in his interview with Good Morning America. “So we are taking all kinds of precautions. Our testing procedure now is done online.”

Alex continued, “We’ll do three and take a short break, and then do the last two. And we’ll see how that goes, and if it’s too much for me, we can always cut back a little bit, maybe do four a day.”

There is still no set date for Jeopardy!‘s return, however, Alex is looking forward to getting back to work.

“It’s the best kind of reality television I feel. And people watch it, and if they come up with one or two correct responses in that half hour, they feel pretty good about themselves,” he added. “And that’s great.”

If you missed it, Alex joked about the only celebrity he’d like to replace him.

Alex Trebek Calls Wife Jean a 'Saint' While Talking About His Cancer Prognosis

Alex Trebek got candid in a brand new interview about his cancer diagnosis with Good Morning America.

The 79-year-old Jeopardy! host opened up about reaching a decision about his future if his current immunotherapy treatment fails, admitting that he wouldn’t going through “any extraordinary measures to ensure my survival.”

It was a tough decision to make and telling his children - Matthew, Emily and Nicky, and wife Jean – wasn’t easy, but they “handled it beautifully.”

“They understand that there is a certain element regarding quality of life. And if the quality of life is not there — it’s hard sometimes to push and just say, ‘Well, I’m gonna keep going even though I’m miserable.’”

Alex also gave a lot of credit to wife Jean, who he’s been married to for 30 years.

“There was one day a few weeks ago when Jeanie asked me in the morning, ‘How do you feel?’ And I said, ‘I feel like I wanna die.’ It was that bad,” he shared. “I apologize to her and explain that it has nothing to do with my love for her or my feelings for her. It just has to do with the fact that I feel like I’m a terrible burden to her. And that bothers me tremendously.”

“She’s a saint,” Alex added. “She has so much goodness in her that she is always giving out, always putting out to help me get over difficult moments. And there have been some difficult moments. I’m just in awe of the way she handles it.”

Just recently, Alex donated a large sum to help fight homelessness. See how much here…
