Andrea Bocelli Reveals He & His Family Had Coronavirus; Donated Plasma For Research

Andrea Bocelli has revealed that he tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus, and is now in recovery.

In a statement to La Stampa, an Italian publication, the 61-year-old opera singer confirmed that he and his entire family were positive for the virus.

“My whole family was contaminated,” Andrea shared. “We all had a fever – though thankfully not high ones – with sneezing and coughing.”

He continued, “I had to cancel many concerts… It was like living a nightmare because I felt like I was no longer in control of things. I was hoping to wake up at any moment.”

The paper reports that the Bocelli family were tested in March, and are all now in recovery from the infection.

Andrea and his wife, Veronica Berti, have also donated their plasma for COVID-19 research.

A month later, Andrea was well enough to perform for Easter Sunday at the Duomo in Milan, which was empty at the time due to Italy’s strict lockdown.

Celine Dion Performs 'The Prayer' with Lady Gaga & More as the Finale for 'Together at Home' (Video)

The best performance of the night during the One World: Together At Home special was saved for last – Celine Dion made a surprise appearance to perform “The Prayer” with some friends!

The legendary singer was joined by her duet partner Andrea Bocelli, plus event curator Lady Gaga, John Legend, and pianist Lang Lang for the performance.

All of the entertainers filmed their portions from home and the videos were pieced together to create an incredible moment.

Gaga worked with Global Citizen and the World Health Organization to organize the eight-hour special and she helped raise $50 million from private corporations and philanthropists before the event even began. The evening was not a fundraiser because all the money had already been raised.

Andrea Bocelli Delivers Moving Easter Sunday Performance From Milan's Duomo - Watch Here!

Andrea Bocelli steps outside the magnificent Duomo for a special performance on Easter Sunday (April 12) in Milan, Italy.

The 62-year-old musician gave a moving performance for the religious holiday, amid the coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns across the world.

“Thanks to music, streamed live, bringing together millions of clasped hands everywhere in the world, we will hug this wounded Earth’s pulsing heart, this wonderful international forge that is reason for Italian pride,” Andrea had shared in a statement earlier in the week about the performance. “It will be a joy to witness it, in the Duomo, during the Easter celebration which evokes the mystery of birth and rebirth.”

Andrea, organ player Emanuele Vianelli and a skeleton crew were the only ones around as they filmed the performance.

“Panis Angelicus”, “Ave Maria, CG 89a”, “Sancta Maria”, “Domine Deus” and “Amazing Grace” were the songs in the set list.

Andrea Bocelli To Perform In Empty Cathedral For Easter Sunday Concert

Andrea Bocelli is set to bring us a once-in-a-lifetime concert event this weekend for Easter Sunday, April 12.

The 61-year-old opera singer will be performing a solo concert at the Duomo cathedral in Milan, Italy – and the venue will be completely empty.

Andrea and organist Emanuele Vianelli will be the only people in the cathedral for the special event, as the venue has been shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“On the day in which we celebrate the trust in a life that triumphs, I’m honored and happy to answer ‘Sì’ to the invitation of the City and the Duomo of Milan,” Andrea shared in a statement about the event. “I believe in the strength of praying together; I believe in the Christian Easter, a universal symbol of rebirth that everyone — whether they are believers or not — truly needs right now.”

He adds, “Thanks to music, streamed live, bringing together millions of clasped hands everywhere in the world, we will hug this wounded Earth’s pulsing heart, this wonderful international forge that is reason for Italian pride. It will be a joy to witness it, in the Duomo, during the Easter celebration which evokes the mystery of birth and rebirth.”

Andrea Bocelli: Music for Hope will be live-streamed on Sunday at 1 pm EST on YouTube.
