Zoe Saldana is opening up about the death of her Star Trek franchise co-star Anton Yelchin and she is devastated by the news.

“Devastated by our friend’s loss. We are mourning his passing and celebrating the beautiful spirit that he was. #RIPAnton,” the 36-year-old actress tweeted early Monday morning (June 20).

Zoe‘s rep told Us Weekly that she learned about the news when she landed in Cuba on Sunday.

“She is beyond devastated, and first and foremost her heart and prayers are with the Yelchin family during this time,” the rep said.

The cast of the Star Trek franchise is mourning the tragic loss of Anton Yelchin.

In case you didn’t know, the late 27-year-old actor, who died in a freak car accident, starred as Chekov in Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, and the upcoming film Star Trek Beyond.

Star Zachary Quinto took to Instagram to express his grief.

“our dear friend. our comrade. our anton. one of the most open and intellectually curious people i have ever had the pleasure to know. so enormously talented and generous of heart. wise beyond his years. and gone before his time. all love and strength to his family at this impossible time of grief,” he wrote.

The Star Trek actor was just 27 years old when he died on Sunday (June 19) after a freak car accident in San Fernando Valley, Calif.

Anton Yelchin‘s team has released a statement regarding his tragic and sudden death on Sunday (June 19) in San Fernando Valley, Calif.

“Anton Yelchin was killed in a fatal traffic collision early this morning,” his rep tells JustJared.com. “His family requests you respect their privacy at this time‎.”

Anton was reportedly found pinned against his own car in his driveway.

It’s unclear what exactly happened, but police are currently investigating. They don’t suspect foul play.

This is terrible news – actor Anton Yelchin has died.

According to TMZ, the 27-year-old Star Trek star was killed early on Sunday morning (June 19) after getting pinned by his own car.

His friend reportedly got worried when he didn’t show up to a meeting, so he went to his house in San Fernando Valley and found him “pinned between his car and a brick mailbox, which was attached to a security gate.”

Cops say that the engine was still running and the car was in neutral. No other details are known at this time, but they don’t suspect foul play.

The full teaser trailer for the upcoming movie Star Trek Beyond has been released and you can watch it below!

The movie will reunite the cast from the last two films – Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, and Karl Urban.

Not much has been revealed about the plot of the film this time, but we are given our first look at Sofia Boutella in her new role. Idris Elba is also joining the cast in this upcoming movie, directed by Justin Lin.

Star Trek Beyond hits theaters on July 22, 2016.
