The fourth and final season of Atypical finally has a debut date on Netflix – and it’s sooner than you think!

Atypical tells the story of Sam Gardner (Keir Gilchrist), a young man on the autism spectrum looking for love and independence. In the fourth and final season, each character faces a challenge they never anticipated and Sam sets his sights on a nearly impossible goal. Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as his mother, Elsa, Michael Rapaport plays his father, Doug, and Brigette Lundy-Paine plays Sam’s sister, Casey.

The final season will debut on Netflix on July 9.

Atypical has been renewed for a fourth – and final – season on Netflix.

“I’m thrilled we’ll be doing a season four of Atypical. And while I’m so sad to be nearing the end of this series, I am extremely grateful to have been able to tell this story,” creator and showrunner Robia Rashid said in a statement (via THR). “Our fans have been such beautiful, vibrant supporters of this show. Thank you for being so open to Sam’s voice and stories, and those of the entire Gardner family. It’s my hope that the legacy of Atypical is that more unheard voices continue to be heard and that even after this series ends, we keep telling funny, emotional stories from underrepresented points of view.”

Keir Gilchrist stars in the show, with Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michael Rapaport and Brigette Lundy-Paine also featured. Final episodes will debut in 2021.

Atypical is coming back!

The hit Netflix series is set to return to the streaming service on November 1.

In season three, Sam (Keir Gilchrist) starts his first year of college and is faced with the challenge of figuring out what success means for him, while adjusting to the changes that come with growing up.

Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as his mother, Elsa, who continues her own journey of self-discovery as her children grow older and more independent, Michael Rapaport plays his father, Doug, and Brigette Lundy-Paine plays Sam’s sister, Casey. Recurring this season are Sara Gilbert as Sam’s new Ethics professor, and Eric McCormack as his art professor.

While Sam is on his funny and emotional journey of self-discovery, the rest of his family must grapple with change in their own lives while exploring the question: what does it really mean to be “normal”?

Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michael Rapaport, Brigette Lundy-Paine and Amy Okuda also star in the series, debuting on Friday, August 11.
