Literary legend Beverly Cleary is about to hit a major milestone – she turns 100 next month!
The 99-year-old author has penned over 40 beloved children’s novels including the Ramona Quimby series, which is almost 50 years old!
Beverly explained that she never expected to live this long, telling the Today show that “she can’t believe it” and joking that she “didn’t do it on purpose!”
She added that she got her start writing when she realized many children’s books at the time were not relatable for American kids and featured characters she called “sissies.”
She also said that she is most proud of “the fact that children love my books.”
