Billy Dee Williams Explains Why He's Okay with Actors Wearing Blackface

Billy Dee Williams is sharing his thoughts on actors wearing blackface.

If you didn’t know, blackface is the practice of non-black performers using black makeup to portray a caricature of black people on stage or on film.

In a new interview, the 87-year-old Star Wars actor looked back at the late English actor Laurence Olivier wearing blackface in the 1965 movie adaption of Othello.

Daisy Ridley Joins John Boyega & Oscar Isaac at 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' Premiere in London!

The stars of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker are bringing their new movie to London!

John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Oscar Isaac buddied up on the red carpet together at the premiere of the final Star Wars installment on Wednesday evening (December 18) at the Cineworld Leicester Square in London, England.

Fellow cast members at the premiere included Kelly Mare Tran, Keri Russell, Billy Dee Williams, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Domhnall Gleeson, and Joonas Suotamo.

Director J.J. Abrams was also in attendance.

'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' Cast Celebrate Launch of United Plane!

The cast of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker are taking it to the sky… literally!

The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker cast and filmmakers posed in front of United Airlines’ Star Wars-themed Boeing 737-800 aircraft, created to celebrate the upcoming film-the conclusion of the Skywalker saga.

Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Keri Russell, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, Kelly Marie Tran, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Joonas Suotamo, Ian McDiarmid and writer-director J.J. Abrams and more were all in attendance to celebrate the launch of the plane.

United worked with Lucasfilm on the exciting exterior design, which features THE RESISTANCE on one side of the aircraft and the First Order on the other. Inside the plane, passengers will be treated to custom headrests embossed with emblems of the film’s dueling factions, THE RESISTANCE and the First Order. The special-edition Star Wars aircraft will operate for a limited time, and fans can track the plane with its tail number (N36272) on FlightAware, where it will display as a special Star Wars icon.

'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' Cast Faces Off in 'Family Feud' on 'Kimmel'

Jimmy Kimmel celebrated the Los Angeles premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on Monday night (December 16) with a Star Wars-themed edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The cast of Star Wars: The Rise of SkywalkerDaisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, Kelly Marie Tran, Naomi Ackie, Keri Russell and writer-director J.J. Abrams – joined Jimmy to play a few rounds of “Force Family Feud” in honor of the film’s upcoming release.

Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and the rest of the cast were divided into the “Walkerskys” and the “Vadersteins” and answered questions including “What’s the worst bodypart to have chopped off by a lightsaber?”; “Besides Yoda, name something else that starts with ‘Yo’”; and “Which Star Wars character would make the worst roommate?”

The cast also sat down for a lengthy interview with Kimmel to discuss the new film, which arrives in theaters this week, as well as what they stole from the movie’s set.

Harrison Ford Joins Mark Hamill & 'Star Wars' Cast at 'Rise of Skywalker' Premiere!

Harrison Ford suits up for the premiere of the new movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on Monday night (December 16) in Hollywood.

While the actor is not in the new movie, he still stepped out to support his former co-stars, including franchise vets Mark Hamill, Ian McDiarmid, Billy Dee Williams, and Anthony Daniels.

Also in attendance were co-stars Joonas Suotamo, Dominic Monaghan, Richard E. Grant, and Greg Grunberg, among others. Composer John Williams was seen posing for photos with the guys as well.

J.J. Abrams Says 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' Will Introduce New Force Powers That 'Will Infuriate Some People'

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams has revealed Episode IX features previously unknown Force powers that could potentially divide fans.

“It was really important that we not just redo the things you’ve seen, but add new elements—which we knew will infuriate some people and thrill others,” the 53-year-old writer-director told Vanity Fair.

“Among those things are not just new ways of doing sort of traditional, must-have sequences, whether it’s chases or lightsaber battles, or what have you,” J.J. added. “We wanted to make sure that this picture also showed aspects of the Force in ways that go beyond what you’ve seen before.”

Star Wars' Billy Dee Williams Comes Out as Gender Fluid

Billy Dee Williams is opening up about his identity.

During a new interview, the 82-year-old Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker revealed that he identifies as gender fluid.

“I never tried to be anything except myself,” Billy shared with Esquire. “I think of myself as a relatively colorful character who doesn’t take himself or herself too seriously…And you see I say ‘himself’ and ‘herself,’ because I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine.”

Billy continued: I’m a very soft person. I’m not afraid to show that side of myself.”

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be out in theaters on December 20th.
