ABC Announces 4 Exciting New Series Picked Up for 2021-22 Season!

ABC has announced four new shows that will be coming to the network in the upcoming 2021-22 television season!

It’s currently upfronts week, which is when all of the networks finalize their renewals and cancellations, decide which new shows they’ll pick up, create their schedules for the upcoming season, and then present everything to advertisers.

Usually, upfronts week happens in New York City with all the network’s talent appearing on stage for the advertisers, but that didn’t happen this year or last year because of the pandemic.

ABC has announced so many renewals and cancellations in the last couple days that we can barely keep track. We have a full recap for you though!

Brandy To Star In ABC's 'Queens' Opposite Eve & Naturi Naughton

Brandy is the latest star to be added to the cast of ABC’s pilot, Queens.

According to Deadline, the 42-year-old musician will star opposite Eve and Naturi Naughton in the series about four estranged and out-of-touch women in their 40s who reunite for a chance to recapture their fame and regain the swagger they had as the Nasty Bitches – their ’90s group that made them legends in the hip-hop world.

Brandy is set to portray Naomi, who was better known as Xplicit Lyrics, the highly skilled musical engine of the Nasty Bitches. A true artist with boundless musical talent — Naomi was certain she’d go on to mainstream success after the group’s demise, but she hasn’t.

The character description adds that Naomi is now “singing and playing her guitar in crappy dive bars where all people want is her old persona.”

When the group gets back together, Naomi is reunited with the only man she ever loved, and the rival bandmate who stole that man from her. But what Naomi wants more than anything is to build a relationship with the daughter she was never really there for — if she only knew how.

As part of the series, Brandy will record and perform original songs for it, as her character.

Todrick Hall & Brandy Team Up for 'Cinderella' Medley Ahead of The Film's Release on Disney+ - Watch Now!

Todrick Hall is getting us so excited for the release of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella on Disney+!

Ahead of the 1997 movie finally being available for streaming, the 35-year-old singer and choreographer teamed up with the movie’s star Brandy to perform a medley of songs from the movie.

In the music video, Todrick and Brandy start off by singing the song “Impossible” in his house, before Brandy gets all dressed up in her iconic Cinderella ballgown for a choreographed dance in a ballroom.

Fellow Cinderella cast members that made appearances in the video included Victor Garber (King Maximillian), Paolo Montalbán (Prince Christopher), Jason Alexander (Lionel), Veanne Cox (Calliope), Bernadette Peters (Stepmother), and Whoopi Goldberg (Queen Constantina).

“In 1997 I saw ‘Cinderella’ starring Brandy and it changed my life! It is THE REASON why I started singing and dancing and pursuing Broadway, so when @brandy agreed to sing with me, my fairy tale dream came true. I am living proof that dreams really do come true!” Todrick tweeted along with the release of the video.

If you missed it, Brandy recently teased that she has something in the works involving around her Cinderella movie.

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella will be available on Disney+ “at the stroke of midnight” (Pacific Time aka 3am Eastern Time) on Friday, February 12!

Brandy Looks Back at 'Cinderella' Movie, Reveals Something That is in the Works

Brandy is opening up about working on the 1997 movie Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella and she revealed that something is in the works!

Nearly 24 years after the movie aired on ABC as the re-launch of The Wonderful World of Disney, the movie is being added to the Disney+ streaming service.

Brandy chatted with Vulture and talked about the colorblind casting, wearing her braids while playing Cinderella, working with Whitney Houston, and what she has in the works.

On the colorblind casting: “I couldn’t grasp it all because I was so young. I didn’t really understand how revolutionary this was going to be, how big of an impact it was going to be. I knew that it was special, but I didn’t really know how special. When I was able to see it all come together and see the finished product of it, I was like, Wow, this is different. This is something I had never seen. It inspired me. It was as if I wasn’t even watching me as Cinderella.”

On wearing braids in the movie: “I just absolutely love braids. You can still see they’re still in my hair today. That was what I felt would be so much cooler — if Cinderella also had braids, you know? Because, yes, there’s the first Black princess. That’s amazing. Unbelievable… I love that they allowed me to have braids. It was so beautiful. It represents who I am, who Black women are. It speaks to our culture.”

On working with Whitney: “Oh my God, the singing in the studio was unbelievable. Like, we just have so many beautiful moments and it’s actually captured. You can find it — our chemistry, us trying different melodies, trying different notes. We just were very open with each other and it was a collaborative effort. And then performing it in the actual film, like shooting with her — it was just so fun. I never could have believed that if you told me that when I was a kid.”

On making a soundtrack for the movie, which never happened in the 90s: “I know! I am working on that. I am definitely working on that. I keep hearing the talks about it.”
