Billie Lourd Will Interact With Late Mother Carrie Fisher On-Screen in Upcoming 'Star Wars' Movie

Carrie Fisher and Billie Lourd are going to be reunited on film in the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Director J.J. Abrams confirmed that the two will be on-screen together in an interview with Vanity Fair.

“It was a bizarre kind of left side/right side of the brain sort of Venn diagram thing, of figuring out how to create the puzzle based on the pieces we had,” he said of using unused footage of Carrie from her appearance in The Force Awakens.

At first, he explained, he wrote Billie out of the scenes – but Billie insisted in being in them.

“And so, there are moments where they’re talking; there are moments where they’re touching. There are moments in this movie where Carrie is there, and I really do feel there is an element of the uncanny, spiritual, you know, classic Carrie, that it would have happened this way, because somehow it worked. And I never thought it would.”

Carrie Fisher Has Unpublished Works That Are Set to Be Released

Carrie Fisher‘s brother Todd says there’s more to come from the late actress.

The Star Wars superstar passed away two years ago but many of her works have yet to be published and released.

“We have a lot of her artifacts, and a lot of things of hers that she’s written that will someday be shared. There’s a lot more to come from Carrie,” Todd told ABC News.

He added of Carrie and mom Debbie Reynold‘s passing, “I do miss them both tremendously. At the same time, I have so much left behind by them both, and so many great memories.”

In addition to her unpublished works, Carrie is set to make a final appearance in the ninth episode of the Star Wars saga in December 2019.

“It has been two years since my Momby’s death and I still don’t know what the ‘right’ thing to do on a death anniversary is (I’m sure a lot of you feel the same way about your loved ones),” she wrote.

“So I decided to do something a little vulnerable for me, but something we both loved to do together – sing. This is the piano her father gave her and this was one of her favorite songs. And as the song says, we must ‘keep on moving.’ I’ve found that what keeps me moving is doing things that make me happy, working hard on the things that I’m passionate about and surrounding myself with people I love and making them smile. I hope this encourages anyone feeling a little low or lost to ‘keep on moving.’ As my Momby once said, ‘take your broken heart and turn it into art’ – whatever that art may be for you. ❤️”

Billie Lourd Says 'American Horror Story' 'Saved My Life' After Mom Carrie Fisher's Death

Billie Lourd is very thankful to have Ryan Murphy in her life.

During a recent interview, the 26-year-old actress shared her gratitude for the TV producer for casting her in American Horror Story: Cult shortly after the death of her mom Carrie Fisher.

“I cannot thank Ryan enough. Honestly, it kind of saved my life,” Billie shared with Entertainment Tonight. “When Ryan offered me Cult, it was just a few months after my mom passed, and it honestly helped me process all of my emotions through these characters.”

Carrie died back in December 2016 after going into cardiac arrest. Her grandmother — Debbie Reynolds — died the following day from a stroke.

“Being able to cry for [my character] Winter helped me cry for myself,” Billie continued. “And it’s been really healing and cathartic in an amazing way…It is heavy. We spend like, 14 hours a day crying, and sometimes I go home and I will cry in my car for no reason, because it’s like peeing. Once you break the seal, you can’t stop.”

Carrie Fisher's Brother Supports Her Appearance in 'Episode IX'

Todd Fisher, the brother of the late Carrie Fisher, is speaking out in support of the decision to use unreleased footage of the actress as Princess Leia in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX.

The film’s director JJ Abrams announced that her daughter Billie Lourd has also given her blessing.

“I couldn’t be more personally thrilled and happy that our Carrie will reprise her role as Princess Leia in the new and final Star Wars Episode IX, using previously unreleased footage of her shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Todd said in a statement to Variety.

“As we, her family, as well as her extended family of fans around the world so believe, Carrie’s ‘Princess Leia’ is forever entrenched in the franchise and her indelible presence is fundamental to the film. J.J. Abrams understood Carrie’s iconic role, and he has masterfully re-crafted this final entry to include this unused and very last footage of Carrie ever taken, without resorting to CGI or animatronics. Our family and her fans will look forward with great anticipation for this one!” he added.

The Star Wars: Episode IX cast has been revealed!

Producers announced the cast for the movie, which will begin filming at London’s Pinewood Studios on August 1, on Friday (July 27).

J.J. Abrams will direct the final installment of the Skywalker Saga, and co-wrote the movie with Chris Terrio.

Returning cast members include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo and Billie Lourd.

With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII,” J.J. said.

Composer John Williams will return to soundtrack Episode IX.

The movie is set to hit theaters in December 2019.
