CNN Suspends Chris Cuomo Following Involvement in Helping Brother Andrew Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

Chris Cuomo has been suspended by CNN.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, the network announced that the longtime newscaster will not be on the channel for the foreseeable future.

The decision came after documents and transcripts released by the New York Attorney General’s office detailed how Chris had used his connections to try and help his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, to respond to claims of sexual harassment.

“The New York Attorney General’s office released transcripts and exhibits Monday that shed new light on Chris Cuomo’s involvement in his brother’s defense,” a CNN spokesperson shared in a statement.

The added, “The documents, which we were not privy to before their public release, raise serious questions. When Chris admitted to us that he had offered advice to his brother’s staff, he broke our rules and we acknowledged that publicly. But we also appreciated the unique position he was in and understood his need to put family first and job second.”

“However, these documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother’s efforts than we previously knew. As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation.”

Following Andrew‘s ousting as governor, Chris was also accused of sexual harassment himself.

Chris Cuomo Is Facing Lots of Backlash For Saying He's 'Black On The Inside'

Chris Cuomo is under fire for a comment he made on air over the weekend on CNN.

The comment came as the 50-year-old reporter was signing off and welcoming Don Lemon on air for the night, and as he began to sing the theme song to Good Times, Don asked him how he knew all the words to it while chuckling at him singing along.

“You know I’m Black on the inside,” Chris commented.

The comment sent social media into a tailspin and he later addressed the outrage on his own Twitter page.

“Said with all respect to reality and our need to fight this amplification of color animus,” Chris wrote. “There is no understanding what it is to live as a black person in America if you are white but it is so important to listen. The majority must change racism.”

Chris also responded to one Twitter user who wrote to him that “We are allies, we are not black,” and he replied, “Absolutely true. And too many are not.”

He added, “I really do think my kids’ generation is different tho [sic]. They are not merely ‘woke’ or pc or language police, they really seem to date and hang and choose as fam, a real range of color, creed and identity.”

Just recently, Chris commented on the situation surrounding his brother, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Chris Cuomo Speaks Out About Sexual Harassment Allegations Against Brother Andrew Cuomo

Chris Cuomo is opening up about his brother, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The 50-year-old television journalist addressed allegations made against the 63-year-old politician on Monday night (March 1) on his CNN show.

“Before we start tonight, let me say something that I am sure is very obvious to you who watch my show, and thank you for that. You are straight with me. I will be straight with you,” he said.

“Obviously, I am aware of what is going on with my brother, and obviously, I cannot cover it because he is my brother. Now of course CNN has to cover it. They have covered it extensively and they will continue to do so. I have always cared very deeply about these issues, and profoundly so. I just want to tell you that. There’s a lot of news that goes on also, so let’s get after that,” he continued.

Two former aides accused Andrew of sexual harassment.

In a statement, the governor said: “I now understand that my interactions may have been insensitive or too personal and that some of my comments, given my position, made others feel in ways I never intended. I acknowledge some of the things I have said have been misinterpreted as an unwanted flirtation. To the extent anyone felt that way, I am truly sorry about that.”

CNN recently said they had reinstated their rule that Chris was not allowed to cover any news related to his brother.

Chris Cuomo Is No Longer Allowed to Interview or Cover News About Brother Andrew Cuomo

Chris Cuomo is no longer able to interview or report on his brother, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

CNN told ET in a statement that they had reinstated their rule that Chris was not allowed to cover any news related to his brother.

During the start of the pandemic, the network allowed Andrew to appear on Chris‘ show Cuomo Prime Time.

“The early months of the pandemic crisis were an extraordinary time,” a spokesperson for CNN said. “We felt that Chris speaking with his brother about the challenges of what millions of American families were struggling with was of significant human interest. As a result, we made an exception to a rule that we have had in place since 2013 which prevents Chris from interviewing and covering his brother, and that rule remains in place today. CNN has covered the news surrounding Governor Cuomo extensively.”

Andrew has faced public scrutiny for his administration’s handling of nursing home deaths during the pandemic. While they had previously stated that only 8,500 nursing home residents died from the virus, it was found that the toll was actually closer to 15,000. The FBI and federal prosecutors in Brooklyn have reportedly begun a preliminary investigation into the situation.

Andrew recently announced that stadiums and arenas would begin reopening in New York at a limited capacity.
