Conan O'Brien Is Ending TBS Late Night Talk Show, Heading to HBO Max for Weekly Variety Show!

Conan O’Brien is ending his talk show Conan on TBS in June and moving over to a weekly variety show format with HBO Max!

“In 1993 Johnny Carson gave me the best advice of my career: ‘As soon as possible, get to a streaming platform.’ I’m thrilled that I get to continue doing whatever the hell it is I do on HBO Max, and I look forward to a free subscription,” Conan said in a statement (via Deadline).

This will be the first time in 28 years that Conan is not fronting a late night talk show.

“28 years is a monumental achievement in late-night television,” Brett Weitz, General Manager for TNT, TBS and truTV said in a statement. “We’re incredibly proud of the groundbreaking work that Conan and his team have accomplished during the 10 years at TBS and are so glad that we will continue to have his presence on our air with the ‘Conan Without Borders’ specials. We celebrate his success and are glad to see it grow across our WarnerMedia family.”

This news comes just a few weeks after some bad news from the late night set.

Conan O'Brien Reveals His Late Night Set Was Robbed

Conan O’Brien and his staff on the set of Conan were victims of a robbery.

The show is temporarily set up at the Largo Theater in Los Angeles, and a burglar came and took things including laptops and the slate to indicate filming has started.

“We come to this theater because we thought theaters are in trouble, let’s revive a theater, let’s keep it going. Seemed like a nice thing to do,” Conan said. “What happens? We get here this morning and we find out that someone broke into our little theater and took some of our equipment, some of the equipment we use to make the show. We got robbed!”

Conan added, “Look at us! What happened to us? This kind of s**t isn’t happening to other big time late-night shows. No one breaks into The Tonight Show and steals all the equipment… This would never happen to Kimmel or Fallon or any of those guys.”

Matt Damon Explains How Ben Affleck Saved Him From Getting Beat Up in High School (Video)

Matt Damon joined Conan on Monday night (November 4) and recalled the the last fight he’d been in, and how his longtime friend Ben Affleck came to his rescue.

According to the 49-year-old Jason Bourne actor, the trouble started when he and a group of neighborhood kids went to play football on Cambridge Common during a snow day in the mid ’80s. At that point, Damon and Affleck were both students at Cambridge Rindge & Latin.

“I mouthed off to this kid that I knew, but he was like your [Conan’s] height, like 6-foot-6, and I might have been 5-3 at the time, and I said something,” Damon said. “I’d scored on him or something, and I don’t know, I said something but he came for me. And it was like this mountain of a guy came at me and I was like, ‘Oh man.’ So before I knew it, it was like I was on the ground, he was above me, and I was like, ‘This is gonna be bad.’”

“It was right then that little 5-foot-2 Ben Affleck tackled this dude off of me, like out of nowhere,” Damon said. “I was, like, a junior and he was, like, a freshman, and he tackled this kid off of me, literally at the risk of his own life.”

“But I remember that was a big moment,” Damon concluded, “going like, ‘This guy, he will put himself in a really bad spot for me.’ Like, ‘This is a good friend to have.’”
