Charlie Cox Rumored to Play Daredevil Again, This Time in a Movie!

The upcoming Spider-Man 3 movie keeps getting more and more big names attached and another one is reportedly joining the cast!

Charlie Cox is rumored to be reprising his role as Daredevil in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, which is currently in production.

The 37-year-old actor played the character in the Netflix television series, which was canceled in November 2018. Variety reported back then that Netflix had a clause that prevented characters from their series from appearing “in any non-Netflix series or film for at least two years after cancellation.”

It has been two years since Daredevil‘s cancellation, so that gives Marvel the freedom to include the character in the MCU. Now, the often reliable fansite Murphy’s Multiverse is reporting that Charlie will play the superhero in the upcoming Spider-Man movie.

Back in May, Charlie explained why he didn’t think a fourth season of Daredevil would happen.

It was reported earlier this week that another major former Marvel star will appear in the movie.

Fans & Cast Members Urge Disney to #SaveDaredevil - See Why It's Trending!

Daredevil fans are hoping to save their favorite series.

Fans of the Marvel series, as well as castmates, are asking Disney to revive the canceled series with the #SaveDaredevil hashtag, which is going viral on social media.

Disney is regaining the screen rights to the character Daredevil from Netflix, which caused the public outcry from fans.

Star Vincent D’Onofrio also urged fans to sign a petition, asking Disney to revive the show for a fourth season once legally allowed on a streamer.

For context: in 2013, Disney and Marvel began a relationship with Netflix to put out four dramas based on Marvel heroes within the MCU. Daredevil premiered in April of 2015, starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple and Vondie Curtis-Hall as Ben Urich.

The show was canceled in 2018 after the Season 3 premiere. And now that Netflix’s two-year hold on the rights to the Marvel characters is up, fans are hopeful that Disney will bring the show back. That said, Charlie Cox spoke out about why he doesn’t think a fourth season would happe. earlier in the year.

'Daredevil' Actor Peter Shinkoda Claims Marvel TV's Jeph Loeb Made Anti-Asian Remarks During Production

Peter Shinkoda is accusing Jeph Loeb of making anti-Asian comments during production of the Netflix series Daredevil.

While appearing on the virtual Comic-Con @ Home, the 49-year-old actor – who played Nobu Yoshioka – claimed that the former head of Marvel Television purposefully minimized Asian characters on the show.

Peter said that there was a story about Nobu in the works that would dive deeper into his relationship with Madame Gao (played by Wai Ching Ho), but it was scrapped by Jeph.

“Jeph Loeb told the writers room not to write for Nobu and Gao…and this was reiterated many times by many of the writers and showrunners,” Peter recalled via Entertainment Weekly. “He said, ‘Nobody cares about Chinese people and Asian people. There were three previous Marvel movies, a trilogy called Blade that was made where Wesley Snipes killed 200 Asians each movie. Nobody gives a s–t so don’t write about Nobu and Gao.’ So they were forced to put their storyline down and drop it.”

Peter went on to say that writers also dropped plans to explore Nobu’s journey to America under the guise of a medical procedure so he could help Gao and the Hand carry out their Black Sky plans.

“All that backstory was dropped,” Peter continued. “The writers told me they regret it and they were reluctant to do it because they were stoked about including that in the storyline but they were prevented so I had to concoct this other storyline and rock that material I was given.”

Jeph was let go last fall when Marvel TV was officially absorbed into Marvel Studios, and after Kevin Feige‘s promotion to Chief Creative Officer for Marvel.

Peter appeared on the first two seasons of Daredevil. Netflix canceled the series after three seasons in 2018.

Charlie Cox Explains Why He Doesn't Think 'Daredevil' Season Four Will Happen

It sounds like Charlie Cox is done with Daredevil.

During a new interview, the 37-year-old actor was asked if he thinks a season four of Daredevil will ever happen.

“I don’t feel that way, no. And, I don’t know why I don’t feel that way,” Charlie shared with ComicBook. “But, I haven’t been given any reason to believe that. And, from a cynical point of view, it just feels like maybe I’m trying to protect myself, ’cause I’d love nothing more than to do it again.”

Charlie also pointed out that he and the rest of the cast have all moved on to different projects. He currently stars alongside Tom Hiddleston in the Broadway play Betrayal.

“But when you make a television show, it’s so complicated, and people’s schedules are so difficult, and contracts are so difficult,” Charlie added. “So that’s why when, as an actor, when you sign onto a TV show, you sign six years of your life away. Because, if you don’t do that, it becomes too complicated to try and get all these moving pieces.”

Daredevil was canceled by Netflix back in November 2018 after three seasons.

Daredevil's Amy Rutberg Says Netflix, Not Marvel, Is to Blame for Cancellation

Daredevil‘s Amy Rutberg, who played the role of Marci Stahl on Netflix and Marvel‘s now cancelled series is speaking out about the sudden cancellation.

“My contacts at Marvel were very surprised,” Amy told Inverse magazine. “Any of the rumors that it was a Marvel decision are wrong, I think it was purely a Netflix decision. That comes from personal conversations with people high up at Marvel. They were surprised.”

Amy continued, “We had heard rumors we would start production as early as February 2019. It’s a little unusual to be that far ahead in the planning and cancel the show, which makes me think Netflix was laboring over whether or not to cancel it. My guess was it was not an easy decision.”

Many had assumed Marvel had pulled the plug on the show after the cancellations of Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

Netflix Cancels 'Daredevil' After Three Seasons

Daredevil is officially over.

Netflix announced on Thursday (November 29) that they will not be renewing the Marvel superhero show for a fourth season.

“Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix,” the streaming site said in a statement. “We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”

The show starred Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Wilson Bethel, Jay Ali, and Elden Hanson.
