The upcoming Matilda musical movie has found its two leading ladies!

Netflix has announced that Emma Thompson will be taking on the role of Miss Trunchbull while newcomer Alisha Weir will play Matilda in the upcoming movie adaption of the famed Broadway musical, EW reports.

Early last year it was reported that one of Emma‘s Harry Potter male co-stars would be playing Miss Trunchbull, but appears if those plans did not pan out.

Matilda The Musical will be directed by Matthew Warchus, who helmed the Broadway and the UK’s West End shows. The original story was told in Roald Dahl‘s 1988 book.

“Matilda will be an imaginative and fresh retelling of the award-winning musical, Matilda, featuring talented young newcomers, alongside established stars,” Matthew said in a statement. “I look forward to introducing this beloved and powerful story to a new generation of fans around the world.”

Just last week, it was announced that this actress will be playing Miss Honey in the upcoming movie.

Emma Thompson is criticizing a double standard in Hollywood.

The 61-year-old Sense & Sensibility actress spoke out about the age differences between men and women commonly seen in romance movies during an interview on podcast CultureBlast.

“It’s completely acceptable for George Clooney – who is delightful – to have someone who is 40 years younger than him or 30 years younger than him. If I have someone playing opposite me in a romantic way, they have to exhume someone, because I’m 61 now. Do you see what I mean? It’s completely and utterly unbalanced,” she explained.

She also spoke about her upcoming film Good Luck to You, Leo Grande. in which she plays a 55-year-old widow who hires a sex worker in his early 20s.

“If Leo Grande, the film that we make, speaks to people and people aren’t averse to seeing someone who’s 61 largely naked with a very much younger person, it’s going to be very interesting. We’ve got to keep being brave about that,” she went on to say.

Robert Downey Jr. walks the carpet with Tom Holland at the premiere of their movie Dolittle on Saturday (January 25) at Cineworld Leicester Square in London, England.

The Marvel actors, who previously worked together while playing Iron Man and Spider-Man, appear in the new fantasy film together. Robert plays the title character while Tom voices the role of Jip, a dog.

Tom appropriately brought his own dog Tessa to the premiere. Joining the guys at the event were co-stars Emma Thompson, Harry Collett, and Carmel Laniado, as well as Robert‘s wife Susan Downey, who produced the movie.

“So much fun this morning at the Doolittle London premier. I think it’s safe to say that Tessa stole the show. Big love to the big man @robertdowneyjr and head to the link in my bio to get your pooch a brothers trust dogs collar,” Tom wrote on Instagram.

Dolittle is playing now in theaters in most parts of the world. It opens in the UK on February 7.

Robert Downey Jr. is building his farm!

While making an appearance to promote his film Dolittle on The Graham Norton Show, the 54-year-old actor dished about the never-ending growth of farm animals, including a pair of gay goats.

“That’s Trigger and Memo, they’re pygmy goats,” Robert expressed as host Graham pulled up a photo of them. “And they’re also brother lovers. It’s perfect.”

Graham then asked if “these come in the house?,” to which Robert responded, “not when they’re active” with a blank stare to the camera.

Robert was joined on the couch by fellow guests Emma Thompson, Hugh Laurie and Terry Gilliam – Watch more after the cut!

The 2020 Academy Awards nominations were announced this morning and Scarlett Johansson achieved something that hasn’t been done in 12 years!

Scarlett earned two acting nominations in the same year – one for Best Actress for Marriage Story and another for Best Supporting Actress for Jojo Rabbit.

The last time an actor has earned two nominations for acting in the same year was in 2008 when Cate Blanchett achieved the feat. Only 10 other actors have ever been recognized twice for their acting in the same year.

Henry Golding flashes a smile alongside his co-star Emilia Clarke while stepping out for the UK premiere of their film Last Christmas held at the BFI Southbank on Monday (November 11) in London, England.

The 32-yeaer-old actor and the 33-year-old actress were joined at the event by the film’s writer and star Emma Thompson and her husband Greg Wise and their daughter Gaia Wise, as well as director Paul Feig and his wife Laurie Feig.

Other attendees who stepped out to show their support at the premiere included cast mates Bryony Kimmings, Peter Mygind and Lydia Leonard, co-screenwriter Jade Anouka and pop superstar Kylie Minogue.

That same day, Emma Thompson sat down for an interview with DJ Tom Price at the Magic Radio studios to promote Last Christmas.
