Barry Manilow is opening up about coming out.
The 80-year-old music legend got candid on the latest episode of Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? on Max.
During the discussion, he revealed why he made the decision to publicly come out as gay in 2017, having already spent 39 years with his manager and now husband, Garry Kief.

Singer Barry Manilow is opening up about why he hid his sexuality from his fans for years.
“I’m so private. I always have been,” the 73-year-old singer told People. “I thought I would be disappointing them if they knew I was gay. So I never did anything…When they found out that Garry and I were together, they were so happy. The reaction was so beautiful – strangers commenting, ‘Great for you!’ I’m just so grateful for it.”
Barry has been with his husband and manager Garry Kief for almost forty years.
When Barry was young, he was married to his high school sweetheart Susan Deixler.
“I was in love with Susan…I just was not ready for marriage…I was out making music every night, sowing my wild oats – I was too young. I wasn’t ready to settle down,” he said.
Barry and Garry were married back in 2014.

“It was a surprise,” a friend of the couple told the mag, adding that the wedding took place at the 71-year-old entertainer’s Palm Springs home with 20-30 guests in attendance. The guests were told they were attending a lunch, not their wedding!
While the pair did not sign any official paperwork, Barry and Garry “are committed to one another and have been for a very long time. They have a great relationship. Garry has always been there for Barry,” a source said. “He’s at a point now where he’s got his career and personal life in a great place and he really doesn’t care what people think. He’s in love and happy.”
