Lisbeth Salander TV Show in the Works at Amazon

Amazon is developing a series about Lisbeth Salander, the character created by author Stieg Larsson in the Millenium book series.

The project – which is currently titled “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” – will “not be a sequel or continuation of the story from the books or the films into which they were adapted,” according to Variety.

Instead, the TV show will take Lisbeth into today’s world with a brand new setting, characters, and a new story.

Amazon Studios and Left Bank will produce the show in association with Sony Pictures Television.

In the past, Rooney Mara played Lisbeth in 2011 movie The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo while Claire Foy played Lisbeth in the 2018 movie The Girl in the Spider’s Web.

As of right now, no actress has been cast to play Lisbeth Salander.

Who Will Play Lisbeth Salander Next? Top Choices Are...

Now that we know Rooney Mara will not be reprising her role as Lisbeth Salander in the upcoming movie The Girl in the Spider’s Web, everyone is wondering who will take on the iconic character next!

There are reportedly three names already in consideration for the part: Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, and Alicia Vikander, according to EW.

Another role that will need to be recast is investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist, who was played by Daniel Craig in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

A “global search” is underway to find the actress to play Lisbeth!

'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Will Get a Sequel Without Rooney Mara

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will finally be getting a sequel, but Rooney Mara will not be playing Lisbeth Salander in the film.

A new cast will be introduced for the upcoming adaptation of The Girl in the Spider’s Web, the fourth novel in the series. David Lagercrantz wrote the novel to continue the franchise after author Stieg Larsson passed away.

Fede Alvarez, who directed Don’t Breathe, will be directing the upcoming movie.

“I’m hugely excited and grateful for this opportunity. Sony has become family to me, and I can’t think of a more thrilling project to celebrate our relationship. Lisbeth Salander is the kind of character any director dreams of bringing to life. We’ve got a great script and now comes the most fun part – finding our Lisbeth,” Fede said in a statement to BuzzFeed.

Daniel Craig, who played investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the 2011 David Fincher movie, is also not expected to return.
