Alec Baldwin's 'Rust' Criminal Charges Will Be Dropped, Statement Released By His Lawyers

Just a few months ago in January 2023, Alec Baldwin was formally charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter involving the tragic death of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer on the set of his film Rust.

Now, word has spread that the charges are being dropped against the 65-year-old actor.

“We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident,” Alec‘s lawyers Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro told Just Jared.

Alec Baldwin is facing another lawsuit in connection to the death of Halyna Hutchins.

The 64-year-old actor was recently charged with involuntary manslaughter for Halyna‘s death after she was accidentally shot dead on the set of the movie Rust.

The actor was holding the gun which discharged and killed Halyna, though he has claimed he did not pull the trigger. Prosecutors say that Alec shouldn’t have pointed the gun as “the first rule of gun safety is never to point a gun at someone you don’t intend on shooting.”

Now, Halyna‘s family is suing Alec and the producers of Rust.

Alec Baldwin is being charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter involving the tragic death of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer on the set of his film Rust.

If you don’t know the tragic story, Halyna was shot and killed on the set of Rust in October of 2021 when Alec pulled the trigger of a prop gun. Shortly after the shooting, Alec made a statement about her death. The transcript of what happened in the moments after the shooting were also revealed a short time later.

The Santa Fe County DA, Mary Carmack-Altwies, has revealed that armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and Alec will both be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and has released a statement about her findings.
