In the new trailer, the late actor’s co-stars, including Emile Hirsch, open up about his dedication to the craft.

“This interest in the exterior and the craft and the way the characters would look and sound and physically look on screen”he was sort of a painter in that way,” Emile explained.

He added, “But he also had a psychological interest in his characters. If you don’t have a sense of play, and if you’re too serious, the odds are you’re going to be too much of a tight-ass to create characters.”

Heath Ledger's Sister Disputes This Rumor About His Tragic Death

Heath Ledger‘s sister Kate is disputing a long-standing rumor that his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight led to his tragic death.

“Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,” Heath told the New York Times in 2007 about filming the movie and his psychological state. “I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.” He also described Ambien use in the publication.

Kate clarified that everything you’ve heard about his time filming The Dark Knight are just rumors.

“I was really shocked, because that was him having fun,” she said (via the Daily Beast). “Every report was coming out that he was depressed and that [the role] was taking this toll on him, and we’re going, honestly, it was the absolute opposite. It couldn’t be more wrong. He had an amazing sense of humor, and I guess maybe only his family and friends knew that, but he was having fun. He wasn’t depressed about the Joker!”

Heath was awarded the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his work on the movie. He passed away on January 22, 2008 in New York City. His cause of death was listed as cardiac arrest brought on by prescription drug intoxication.

Heath Ledger's Sister Says 'I Am Heath Ledger' Documentary Showcases His 'Beautiful Soul'

Heath Ledger‘s sister Kate is opening about her new documentary about her brother.

Kate teamed up with director Derik Murray on I Am Heath Ledger to give fans a deeper look inside the life of the late actor before his untimely death in 2008.

It’s truly reflective of who Heath really was,” Kate told CBS This Morning. “The creative spirit, you know, he was more than just the celebrity persona that people saw. He was really multi-talented and just a beautiful soul, and I think that really comes through the film.”

Kate went on to say that Heath would use home videos as a way to perfect his acting skills where he would record himself putting on skits then go back and critique his work. Kate and Derik heavily relied on these home videos in their documentary.

“We had a strong interest in making a film about him and as we started learning about the depth of him being an artist beyond acting,” Derik said. “This great artist that was interested in photography and filmmaking, we couldn’t resist, we dove right in.”

I Am Heath Ledger premieres May 17th on Spike.

“I couldn’t stop crying,” she told Porter magazine about the film. “It’s like the darkest part of your heart, something happening to your child … She’s making a brave choice, moment by moment, hour by hour, day by day. Because it is a choice. I would exit … It would be so much easier than living with the loss.”

Michelle is currently raising Matilda by herself following Heath‘s death from accidental overdose in January 2008, when he was 28.

“In all honesty, for pretty much everything else, I feel like I’m a believer in not fighting circumstances, accepting where you are and where you’ve been,” Michelle added. “In pretty much all senses but one. I would be able to go totally down that line of thinking were it not for Matilda not having her dad. You know that’s just something that doesn’t … I mean, it just won’t ever be right.”
