Microsoft Is Retiring Internet Explorer in 2022

After more than 25 years, Microsoft‘s Internet Explorer is coming to an end.

The pioneering web browser, which steadily grew out of favor among consumers over the years, will be retired in place of Microsoft Edge on June 15, 2022, the company announced on Wednesday (May 19).

“We are announcing that the future of Internet Explorer on Windows 10 is in Microsoft Edge. The Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10,” the company’s Sean Lyndersay said in a statement.

All consumer versions will end support of the browser, while the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) of Windows 10 will still include Internet Explorer in 2022, and it will likely stop being bundled in Windows either in June 2022 or soon after, via The Verge.
