James Cameron got real about his directing style in his new MasterClass event.

The 66-year-old filmmaker revealed that he does regret his behavior on movie sets in the past.

James admitted that he was a “tinpot dictator” and wishes that he’d been more of a nicer director in the mode of Ron Howard.

In the past, he had built a reputation for being a dominant force, and considers himself more as demanding and never cruel.

“[The director] does say that if he could go back and do one thing differently in his career, it would be to improve the nature of the working relationships he had with his cast and crew members,” Slash Film wrote of his confession.

James noted that he “I could’ve listened more. I could’ve been less autocratic. I could’ve not made the movie more important than the human interaction of the crew.”

Slash Film adds about the MasterClass, saying that James opened up about being that ideal director in the vein of Ron. James even recalls a time he visited one of Ron‘s film sets and was “dumbfounded” at how much time Ron took complimenting people

“I aspire, even today, to try to be my inner Ron Howard,” James noted.

James is currently filming Avatar 4 and 5, while working on post-production work of Avatar 2 and 3.

James Cameron‘s 2009 film Avatar has become the highest-grossing film of all-time at the global box office – again!

It was reported on Friday (March 12) that Avatar was expected to overtake 2019′s Avengers: Endgame due to the movie being rereleased in China.

The Oscar-winning movie became the highest-grossing of all time during its initial theatrical run, but was overtaken by the Avengers film in 2019.

According to THR, the film earned over $8 million through Saturday afternoon alone. That takes Avatar‘s total box office to a total of $2.8 billion, versus the $2.797 billion Endgame made.

Avatar‘s producer Jon Landau said of the news, “We are proud to reach this great milestone, but Jim and I are most thrilled that the film is back in theaters during these unprecedented times, and we want to thank our Chinese fans for their support. We are hard at work on the next Avatar films and look forward to sharing the continuation of this epic story for years to come.”

James Cameron recently shared a huge update about the sequel to Avatar.

James Cameron shared a brand new update about the status of the upcoming Avatar sequel.

The 66-year-old director spoke with Arnold Schwarzenegger in a video call ahead of the 2020 Austrian World Summit environmental conference and revealed that the sequel is complete.

James also opened up about how the pandemic affected filming on the movie.

“COVID hit us like it hit everybody. It hit us hard. We lost about four-and-a-half months of production,” he said. “As a result of that, we’ve rolled around one more full year for a release in December of 2022. That’s been announced already.”

James continued, “Now that doesn’t mean I have an extra year to finish the film, because the day we deliver Avatar 2 we’ll just start working on finishing Avatar 3.”

“So where we are right now, I’m down in New Zealand shooting — we’re shooting the remainder of the live action, we’ve got about 10 per cent left to go. We’re 100 per cent complete on Avatar 2, and we’re sort of 95 per cent complete on Avatar 3.”

Avatar 2: The Way of Water is expected to hit theaters in December 2022.

Avatar is back in action.

The sequels to the blockbuster film are now in production again in New Zealand with director James Cameron, three months after shutting down amid the pandemic.

Producer Jon Landau posted a photo from the set showing the very first shot since they resumed production. The crew was able to return to set following a mandatory 14-day self-isolation period.

“Used my iPhone to snap a picture of our first shot back in production on the Avatar sequels,” producer Jon Landau wrote in a post that featured the director behind a long camera crane. Everyone in the shot is seen wearing face masks and shields.

The first Avatar sequel is still set for a December 2021 release. Three more sequels are then expected to follow in 2023, 2025 and 2027.

James Cameron is back in New Zealand, but he won’t be back on set of the Avatar sequel just yet.

Producer Jon Landau revealed on Tuesday (June 2) that he and the 65-year-old director will be going under quarantine for the next 14 days after arriving in New Zealand after a 13-hour direct flight.

“Our 14-day government supervised self-isolation now begins,” Jon wrote along with a photo of him and James wearing face shields and masks.

It was announced late last month that production for the new Avatar movie would resume in early June since New Zealand had approved new health and safety production protocols.

New Zealand has been praised for its handling of the pandemic, with only 1,504 reported cases and 22 deaths. The country has a population of around 4.8 million.

The next Avatar installment is scheduled for a December 2021 release. Three more sequels are expected to follow in 2023, 2025 and 2027.

James Cameron has faith in the Avatar franchise.

The 65-year-old filmmaker reflected on the film’s success a decade later, as well as Marvel‘s Avengers: Endgame just beating its box office record at $2.79 billion in 2019.

He believes that the film will restore its place at the top as part of a re-release, as well as the movie’s sequel, planned for December 17, 2021.

“I think it’s a certainty. But let’s give Endgame their moment and let’s celebrate that people are going to the movie theater,” he said to USA Today.

“I don’t want to sound snarky after I took the high road (by offering congratulations), but they beat us by one quarter of a percent. I did the math in my head while driving in this morning. I think accountants call that a rounding error.”

He went on to praise Marvel’s ability to get people to theaters.

“I saw it as a really good sign. I was really concerned with all the new streaming services and the different ways people can consume movies right now that the theatergoing experience might have been eroded to the point that a new Avatar film – even if it were better than the first one, and better received – could never achieve the same box-office levels. Now at least we know such a thing is still possible at the movie theater,” he said of the Avengers success.

Avengers: Endgame is now the highest-grossing movie of all time at the worldwide box office and director James Cameron is reacting to losing his box office crown.

James previously held the top two spots on the all-time chart with Avatar at $2.789 billion and Titanic at $2.187 billion.

Endgame has reached $2.790 billion at the worldwide box office and still has the potential to earn more. The movie will be released on Digital HD on July 30, though it’s still playing in theaters.

“I see you, Marvel” James wrote in a tweet on the Avatar account. “Congratulations to Avengers: Endgame on becoming the new box-office king.”
