Joel Edgerton looks cool in a shiny blue jacket while stepping out for MoMA’s The Contenders screening of Loving held at the Museum of Modern Art on Thursday (November 17) in New York City.
The 42-year-old actor was joined by the movie’s writer and director Jeff Nichols as well as MoMA’s Chief Curator of Film Rajendra Roy.
The Contenders series is MoMA’s annual screening and Q&A, featuring the most influential films made in the past year that are earning awards season buzz.
The movie’s producer Colin Firth recently opened up about the decision to cast Joel and Ruth Negga in the interracial marriage drama.
“There was a discussion along the lines of ‘What about this big star, who could double or triple our budget?’” Colin told Entertainment Weekly. “Again, this was me with my producer’s hat on. But Jeff wanted to keep in within the parameters of his own vision. He knew what he wanted and he knew what he needed. He needed 40 days. He wanted to shoot on 35mm film. And he knew how much that would cost, so he wasn’t really interested in having more money if it meant making the slightest compromise in the integrity of the film. And, my God, how could we have done this film without Joel and Ruth?”
