Hedwig and the Angry Inch‘s John Cameron Mitchell has landed the role of Joe Exotic opposite of Kate McKinnon in a new limited series.

John will portray Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel and Kate will play Carole Baskin (McKinnon).

“I’m thrilled to take on the role of this modern folk antihero,” John told Deadline. “Joe and I are the same age and like him, I grew up queer in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas so I feel like I know a little bit about this guy and his desperate attempt to conquer an inhospitable world.”

The Tiger King documentary is available to stream on Netflix right now.

The show “centers on Carole Baskin (McKinnon), a big cat enthusiast, who learns that fellow exotic animal lover Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel (Mitchell) is breeding and using his big cats for profit. She sets out to shut down his venture, inciting a quickly escalating rivalry. But Carole has a checkered past of her own and when the claws come out, Joe will stop at nothing to expose what he sees as her hypocrisy. The results prove dangerous.”

Joe Exotic and Dillion Passage‘s relationship has come to an end.

Dillon revealed the news of their split on Instagram.

“To answer the main question the public wants to know, yes, Joe and I are seeking a divorce,” Dillon wrote, explaining where his relationship with the Tiger King subject is after three years of marriage.

He adds that this “wasn’t an easy decision to make but Joe and I both understand that this situation isn’t fair to either of us. It’s something that neither of us were expecting but we are going to take it day by day.”

“We are on good terms still and I hope it can stay that way,” he continued. “I will continue to have Joe in my life and do my best to support him while he undergoes further legal battles to better his situation.”

Joe‘s attorney, John Phillips, shared a statement about the divorce with People, saying that the “firm is reviewing options with our client, Joe Maldonado Passage, regarding separation and divorce. We have no comment at this time and request privacy.”

Earlier this year, Joe was campaigning to be one of the many people pardoned by former President Donald Trump before his term ended.

Carole Baskin is celebrating Joe Exotic not being released from prison.

If you didn’t know, Joe is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence for trying to pay an assassin $3,000 to kill Carole. He was sent to prison in 2019.

After the success of the Netflix docu-series Tiger King, Joe was convinced that former President Donald Trump wold pardon him before leaving office.

However, when Trump announced his list of presidential pardons on Tuesday (January 19), Joe‘s name was not on it.

His team then released a statement from Joe on Twitter, writing, “I was too innocent and too GAY to deserve a Pardon from Trump. I only mattered to Don Jr. when he needed to make a comment about me to boost his social media post. Boy were we all stupid to believe he actually stood for Equal Justice? His corrupt friends all come first.”

While Joe might be devastated that he wasn’t pardoned, Carole is glad that will remain behind bars.

“I think only Joe’s team and the media were ever even thinking about a pardon for Joe,” Carole told BuzzFeed News.

“There is no benefit, other than a feeble attempt to deflect attention, for anyone to pardon someone who walked up to five tigers and shot them in the head in order to clear cage space for the circus, who was going to pay him to board their tigers during the offseason,” Carole continued. “Tigers are the world’s favorite animal and Joe Schreibvogel Maldonado Passage is right where he belongs: in a cage.”

Tiger King star Joe Exotic is asking Kim Kardashian for assistance in getting him out of prison.

If you don’t know, the star of the famed Netflix documentary was convicted in a murder-for-hire plot against Carole Baskin.

“I know you have never met me and may never want to however I do believe that you hold the values of our justice system dear to your heart,” he wrote to Kim (via ET). “I am writing you this letter not as Joe Exotic but as the person Joseph Maldonado-Passage, asking you to please help me by just taking 10 minutes out of your life and placing a call to President Trump to look at my 257 page pardon it’s all the evidence I’m innocent and ask him to sign my pardon so I can return home to [my husband] Dillon [Passage] and my father.”

“I have lost 57 years of work, my zoo, my animals, my mother has died, my dad is dying and I’ve been taken away from my husband who I love dearly. Everyone is so busy making movies, getting interviews, selling stuff and dressing up like me that everyone forgot I’m a real live person in prison and kept from even telling my own story for something I didn’t do,” he added.

He then asked Kim to call him, saying, “No one even has to know you did it.”

If you don’t know, Kim is passionate about prison reform and she has met with Trump in the past on the topic.

On Thursday night (October 29), the 40-year-old reality star took to her Instagram Story to share a ton of pics of her family getting ready for a party – and their costumes are Tiger King-themed!

For her costume, Kim dressed as Carole Baskin, wearing a long, blonde wig with a flower crown and leopard-print outfit.

Kim‘s BFF Jonathan Cheban transformed into Joe Exotic, complete with a bleached-blonde mullet, handlebar mustache, eyebrow piercing, and bedazzled shirt.

Kim dress her kids North, 7, Saint, 4, Chicago, 2, and Psalm, 16 months, all in tiger cub outfits.

Earlier in the night, Kim revealed the over the top gift husband Kanye West gave her for her birthday.

It was previously announced that Nicolas Cage will be playing the role of Joe Exotic in an upcoming series about the Tiger King star. Now, it has been revealed that Amazon Studios has signed on to help develop the show!

Variety reports that the series will be based on an article about Joe Exotic that was featured in Texas Monthly.

The story “centers around Joe Shreibvogel (Cage), a.k.a. Joe Exotic, an eccentric exotic zookeeper in Oklahoma who fights to keep his park — even at the risk of losing his sanity. The series will live in the lion’s den with Joe, explore how he became Joe Exotic, and how he lost himself to a character of his own creation.”

Carole Baskin, who is Joe Exotic‘s real-life rival and another star of Tiger King, is opening up about Cage playing the role.

She told Extra, “He is such a favorite actor of mine, and I just don’t know if I can even watch him after seeing that role.”
