The cast of The Piano Lesson are hyping up their upcoming play!

Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, Danielle Brooks, Constanza Romero, Michael Potts, April Matthis, Trai Byers, and Ray Fisher joined director LaTanya Richardson Jackson (and Samuel‘s wife) for the a press conference and photo call held at The Skylark on Wednesday (September 7) in New York City.

The August Wilson play is set in the 1930s in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, where a brother and sister are locked in a war over the fate of a family heirloom: a piano carved with the faces of their ancestors. Only by revisiting history can the siblings endeavor to move forward.

“I feel like I’m in grad school,” John shared during the press conference. “This is an education for me. I feel like I’m becoming a different artist, an artist that I’ve been wanting to be.”

Previews for The Piano Lesson start on September 19 at the Barrymore Theatre, and will officially open on October 13.

Starring Margot Robbie, Christian Bale and John David Washington, the film from director David O. Russell is set to be released on November 4 and alongside the first look image, a sizzle reel from the movie was shown to CinemaCon attendees this week in Las Vegas.

Amsterdam is described as an “original romantic crime epic about three close friends who find themselves at the center of one of the most shocking secret plots in American history.”

The movie will also star Alessandro Nivola, Andrea Riseborough, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Shannon, Mike Myers, Taylor Swift, Timothy Olyphant, Zoe Saldana, Rami Malek and Robert De Niro.

Margot and John David were spotted filming the flick just last month in LA, before Margot and Rami were spotted having dinner together after the shoot.

The actors shared a laugh as they arrived on set of their upcoming untitled David O. Russell-directed movie on Tuesday afternoon (March 16) in Los Angeles.

Margot sported a short, black wig and sweats while John David wore a mask and winter coat as they headed to their trailers.

Last month, Margot and John David were spotted filming an intense scene with fellow co-star Christian Bale.

Not much is known at all about the project, other than it being called an “Untitled David O. Russell Film.”

All we actually know is that it is “based on an original idea” and on top of Margot, Christian and John David, it will also feature a ton of other A-list stars!

Samuel L. Jackson, Danielle Brooks, and John David Washington are all heading to Broadway next year… and then they’ll be turning the play into a movie!

The three actors are reportedly set to appear in a revival of the classic August Wilson play The Piano Lesson in 2022.

The Daily Mail‘s Baz Bamigboye reports that the production will be directed by Samuel‘s wife LaTanya Richardson Jackson.

A movie version of the play is also in the works with all three actors expected to appear. A different director will helm the movie, though it will not be the previously reported Barry Jenkins.

Denzel Washington will be producing the movie and he previously had told the New York Times that Barry was in talks to direct. The actor is planning on turning all 10 plays in Wilson‘s Century Cycle into movies and he has already completed Fences and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

BroadwayWorld reports that The Piano Lesson “is set in 1936 Pittsburgh and follows the lives of the Charles family as they deal with themes of family legacy and more, in deciding what to do with an heirloom, the family piano.”

The trio of actors were seen in long trench coats and hats while walking down the street together, and the movie is looking to be in another era.

Christian was spotted with a manila folder in one hand and Margot also tried to escape the two at one moment in the scene.

Zendaya is addressing some backlash regarding her new movie.

While promoting her Netflix movie Malcolm & Marie, the 24-year-old Emmy winner addressed the age gap between she and co-star John David Washington.

If you didn’t know, there is a 12-year age difference between Zendaya and the 36-year-old actor.

For Zendaya, she believes it’s because people are still fixated on the fact that “I’ve played a 16-year-old since I was 16.”

“You have to remember, also, people grew up with me as a child,” Zendaya shared with E!’s Daily Pop. “It’s like watching, I guess, your younger sibling now, you know, they’re grown…So it’s hard for people to wrap around the idea that I am grown in real life. You know, even though I do play a teenager on television still.”

In another new interview, Zendaya shared her thoughts on being considered a “Disney kid.”
