Jonathan Rhys Meyers has nothing but praise for his wife, Mara Lane, following their mid-flight incident earlier this month.

If you missed it, the 40-year-old was detained by police in Los Angeles in early July after an apparent argument with his wife on a flight from Miami.

“Oh, my wife is a superior woman. She’s incredible,” Jonathan told PeopleNOW after being asked if Mara helped him with his addiction struggles. “Yeah, incredible. I couldn’t be luckier.”

“Yeah, I don’t like to spend too much money on suits and clothes because I have a 19-month-old boy [Wolf] and that’s where all the money goes, the 40-year-old actor told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest. “I just buy my suits off the rack.”

Jonathan also talked about his latest film Damascus Cover, where he plays a spy who navigates the precarious terrain of love and survival during an undercover mission in Syria.

“It dives into the reality of the costs of the job that has consequences for everybody all over the world,” Jonathan said about the flick – Watch below!

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has broken his silence on the incident that occurred on a flight into Los Angeles with his wife Mara (who also explained her side of the incident) and their young son.

The 40-year-old actor was reportedly detained by police after deboarding due to an outburst in the air.

“My wife and I had been traveling since 3 o’clock in the morning from Peru back to Los Angeles,” Jonathan said during an appearance on Larry King Now. “And they gave away our tickets — it was just a problem with the airline. We had our baby, who was teething at the time, and it was all kind of frustrating. So we eventually got on the flight and my wife went to sleep and I very stupidly decided to order a drink. When my wife found that I’d ordered a drink, she got very, very angry with me because I shouldn’t drink. It doesn’t suit me and I had been sober for a long time.”

“And so I felt that mistake and I got upset and I took out an e-cigarette. And the airline staff told me that I wasn’t allowed to smoke an e-cigarette so I put it away. And then I spoke to the Los Angeles police once we got there, who were incredibly kind. Incredibly understanding. I apologized for my behavior, and that’s the entire story,” Jonathan continued. “It is a good opportunity to apologize to anybody who was offended that that incident happened, but I learned my lesson. As soon as I got off the airplane I went and spoke to somebody and I got back on track immediately,” he added.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been seen for the first time since he was detained by the police at LAX Airport.

The 40-year-old actor was seen running some errands this week in Los Angeles.

Jonathan was held at LAX Airport by the police after he allegedly smoked an e-cigarette on a flight and got into an altercation with his wife.

In a note to fans, Jonathan‘s wife Mara explained what happened on the airplane and thanked fans for their “compassion on this ongoing battle with addiction we are in.”

Jonathan Rhys Meyers‘ wife Mara has taken to Instagram to explain and apologize for the airplane incident this week.

If you missed it, Jonathan was detained by police in Los Angeles this week after an apparent argument with his wife on a flight from Miami.

“8 months of sobriety and an unfortunate day of airline travel. We were in South America specifically working holistically through anger issues that result in these kinds of episodes. When in it… he is not in a frame of mind where he can really even comprehend the repercussions and necessary response to his own actions,” Mara explained of her 40-year-old husband on her Instagram.

“[Jonathan] IS extremely sorry for any inconveniences caused to anyone traveling yesterday. There was no argument, just me asking him to not use his e cig per stewardess’ request to me and him not being himself, speaking very very unkindly. It was out of his character,” she continued.

“It was unbeknownst to me anything that happened on flight, as I was with my son with a privacy wall up. We are home safe and he is feeling deeply sorry for any remote disrespect afforded to me, attendants, onlookers or officers. Thank you for your compassion on this ongoing battle with addiction we are in,” Mara concluded.

Jonathan has been to rehab several times over the years.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers reportedly was detained by police at LAX Airport after arriving on a flight from Miami on Sunday (July 8), though no official statement has been made.

The 40-year-old actor was on a flight with his wife Mara and their one-year-old son Wolf.

TMZ reports that on the flight, Jonathan allegedly became “verbally abusive” towards Mara after they got into an argument. Jonathan was apparently cursing during the argument and other passengers reportedly became upset.

At one point, Jonathan also got up to go to the bathroom and was allegedly smoking an e-cigarette. This is a federal violation and he did stop when he was asked to stop by a flight attendant.

Upon landing in Los Angeles, Jonathan was detained, but denied smoking the e-cig. Police called the FBI but they did not feel the need to respond to the call and Jonathan was released.

The report also suggests that Jonathan had been drinking, though there has been no official statement. Jonathan has been to rehab several times over the years.
