During her visit, Hoda was asked whether she still keeps in touch with former co-star Kathie Lee.
She revealed that the two still talk and text “a lot,” and she had some big news!
“She’s happy…she’s in love,” Hoda said to the crowd, who applauded upon hearing that.
“She’s in love, she’s in Nashville, she’s singing…she’s doing all the things she enjoys.”
Back in April, Kathie Lee said she was in a “special relationship” when she visited Today. She was married to Frank Gifford for nearly 30 years before his death in 2015.
Speaking on The Talk, the 66-year-old host and actress shared that it appeared to her that Regis was suffering from a form of “depression” because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“He had been depressed in the weeks and months earlier, because of [COVID-19],” she said. “Regis couldn’t perform anywhere, nobody was out and about. He couldn’t be Regis for people, and it broke his heart.”
She added that his wife Joy had told her that “one of his dearest friends had just recently died of COVID, so he was pretty much in a depression…Regis just lived to make people happy. He certainly made me happy for the 35 years that we were great friends.”
“Later after he passed, two weeks later, Joy told me that that was the last time she heard him laugh, was when he was at my house,” Kathie said. “So, that was a sweet gift from God to me that he blessed that friendship even at the very end. There was nobody like him ever, and there will never be another like him, ever.”
Just days after his passing, Kathie opened up about one of the final times she saw Regis. Here’s what she said…
We found out this information during Kathie Lee‘s appearance on Watch What Happens Live this week, when she was asked if she had any advice for them.
“By the time I moved away from California they were still very, very little, so I’ve obviously not had a whole lot of influence on their lives,” Kathie Lee said. “But I adore them. I adore all of them. They’re part of my life. I’ve know [their mom] Kris [Jenner] since I was in my early 20s, when I first started my career in California.”
“I would tell them, first of all, stay close to God. And they sometimes do!” she said. “I would tell them to be true to themselves. That’s about it. That’s what I tell everybody.”
“They’re not superstars or billionaires when they come into this world. They were just my dear friend’s children,” she continued. “That’s what all we celebrities are anyway at the end of the day really, we’re just people.”
She added, “We have a celebrity crazed culture and we put people on pedestals that we’re not made for. People aren’t supposed to sit where only God should sit. We make huge mistakes [when] we make our idols out of human beings, ’cause they’re going to topple and fall. Unfortunately in our culture people love to see the fall. I hate it. I hate to see people ruined or destroyed.”
Kathie Lee Gifford is opening up about her dating life in a new interview with ExtraTV.
The 67-year-old daytime talk show host and actress joked about the kind of guy she’s looking for, and reflected on losing her husband, Frank Gifford, while talking about her new movie, Then Came You.
“Oh, I got some gams. That’s about all I’ve got left,” Kathie joked about her legs. “I still have my teeth, but I’m just looking for a guy that’s got real teeth. That’s it.”
Kathie added, “I have dated a little bit. It’s not been successful.”
She did open up about how her character, Annabelle, related to her own life.
“I had been a widow for about two years when Frank passed and Annabelle, my character, is only been a widow for one year,” she shared. “I saw Frank’s passing coming, but Annabelle didn’t…The only way that I’m similar to her at all in this movie — it’s not autobiographical at all — is that she’s a widow, I’m a widow, that’s it.”
Then Came You will hit theaters for one night on September 30 and then, will be available to watch On Demand on October 2.
The iconic television host’s son Cody Gifford, 30, got married to his longtime love Erika Brown over the weekend.
Kathie Lee announced the news on her Instagram account on Monday (September 7) by sharing a photo of Cody and his bride holding hands on their wedding day.
“God gave us a glorious day to celebrate this glorious couple. So grateful. 🙏🏻” she captioned the photo.
People reports that “just parents and siblings were in attendance” at the wedding, which took place amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Erika posted a wedding photo on her page as well. Kathie Lee commented on the pic and said, “Cody married!! Cassidy married! I am the happiest mama in the world!”
