Mayans M.C.'s Showrunner Kurt Sutter Fired for Being 'Abrasive Dick'

Kurt Sutter, showrunner for FX’s Mayans M.C., has been fired after “multiple complaints” over his behavior on the set of the show, THR reports.

Apparently, Kurt actually described himself as an “abrasive dick” in a letter he sent to the cast and crew, revealing his firing. The letter has not been made publicly available yet, but stay tuned as we learn more.

This apparently is not affecting his overall production deal with 20th Century Fox TV.

Kurt also created the hit series Sons of Anarchy.

'Mayans MC' Cast & Crew Defend Show Violence at Summer TCAs 2019

The stars of Mayans MC hit the stage for their panel discussion at the 2019 Summer TCA Press Tour on Tuesday (August 3) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Show creator Keith Sutter attended the event alongside stars Elgin James, JD Pardo, Clayton Cardenas, Edward James Olmost, Sarah Bolger, Danny Pino, and Emilio Rivera as they promoted the upcoming new season of their FX show.

During the event, Keith defended the show’s violent scenes.

“This is a world that has the language of violence,” Keith said via Deadline. “We’re exploring these damaged characters in this dark world…Creatively it’s our job to tell human truth through fiction. The truth of violence is that it’s never gratuitous. It’s not pretty, not sexy and it always has consequences…Violence shatters humanity and that’s my job – to put it in story.”

The second season of Mayans MC will premiere on Tuesday, September 3 on FX.

'Mayans MC' Star JD Pardo Reveals How He Got His Role

JD Pardo and Sarah Bolger hit the red carpet at the panel for Mayans MC during the final day of 2018 Comic-Con on Sunday (July 22) in San Diego, Calif.

Some of the other cast members at the panel included Clayton Cardenas, Edward James Olmos, Michael Irby, Carla Baratta, Antonio Jaramillo, Raoul Max Trujillo, Richard Cabral, Danny Pino, Emilio Rivera, Frankie Loyal, Vincent Vargas, and Joseph Lucero.

JD and series creator Kurt Sutter opened up during the panel about how he was cast in the lead role.

“I saw his read with a couple other actors and sort of knew what I was looking for,” Kurt said (via Variety). “It was one of those things where I knew what I wasn’t looking for and then I saw JD read and there was something interesting and commanding in what he was doing.“

“We had this honest conversation where he told me what he wanted the character to be,” JD added. “I told [Kurt], ‘If you give me this opportunity I will not let you down, I will not let FX down, I will not let the fans down.’”

Mayans MC is a spin-off of the beloved series Sons of Anarchy.

'Sons of Anarchy' Spinoff 'Mayans MC' Gets FX Series Order

A Sons of Anarchy spinoff series, Mayans MC, is coming to FX this year!

The network announced a 10-episode first season for Kurt Sutter‘s follow-up to the biker drama on Friday (January 5).

Mayans MC will premiere in either the summer or fall of 2018, marking the 10th anniversary of the original series.

Mayans MC is “set in a post-Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes (J.D. Pardo), fresh out of prison, is a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border,” according to THR. “Now EZ must carve out his new outlaw identity in a town where he once was the golden boy who had the American dream within his grasp.”

Kurt Sutter is a master storyteller and Mayans MC has the raw energy and intensity that are hallmarks of his signature style,” said FX president of original programming Nick Grad. “Thanks to Kurt, co-creator Elgin James and this amazing cast, Mayans MC builds on the legacy of Sons of Anarchy, taking it in a thrilling new direction that we can’t wait for the world to see.”

The cast will also include Edward James Olmos, Sarah Bolger, Clayton Cardenas, Richard Cabral, Michael Irby, Raoul Trujillo, Antonio Jaramillo, and Carla Baratta.

Sons of Anarchy wrapped its seven-season run back in 2014.

'Sons of Anarchy' Spin-Off in Development at FX

Good news for Sons of Anarchy fans – the show is getting a spin-off!

According to Variety, few details are known, but creator Kurt Sutter will serve as executive producer for the untitled project at FX, and is reportedly searching for a showrunner so he can spend time on his new show Bastard Executioner.

The show would “focus on the Mayans motorcycle crew and would be set in the Northern California motorcycle club scene,” the outlet reports.

In case you don’t remember, the Mayans were an Oakland-based Hispanic gang that was involved with heroin and prostitution, and was often at odds with SAMCRO.
