Minnie Driver Talks Playing a Modern Mom on 'Speechless'

Minnie Driver is proud to play a modern mom on her series Speechless.

The 47-year-old actress stepped out a Speechless PaleyLive Spring Season event on Tuesday (May 9) at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Minnie was joined at the event by her co-stars John Ross Bowie, Mason Cook, Micah Fowler, Kyla Kenedy and Cedric Yarbrough.

She recently opened up about her role on the show, which veers away from the perfect housewife of the past.

“She’s great and she’s awful, like loads of people. What’s interesting, and what I want to see on television, are these faulted, conflicted characters. I don’t want to see somebody perfect,” she explained.

Minnie added, “We’re into the real world of people who are messy and broken and messed up, and that’s funny and engaging – they grab our hearts, but it’s a bit trickier…Women have always been that way – wacky and dimensional – but often need to be perceived in a much tidier box, usually as the addendum to some dude.”
