The anticipated 9 to 5 sequel has been dropped!
Dolly Parton confirmed the unfortunate news while attending the world premiere of her upcoming Netflix series Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings on Tuesday (October 29) in Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
The original 1980 film followed three working women – the 73-year-old country star along with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin – who live out their fantasy of getting even with their antagonistic boss (Dabney Coleman).
“[They've] dropped that whole idea. I don’t think we’re going to do the sequel,” Dolly revealed (via ET). “We never could get the script where it was enough different than the first one, and that one turned out so good.”
“We’re thinking we might do a completely different thing together, Jane, Lily and I,” Dolly added. “We may do something different altogether, but I don’t think we’ll continue with [the sequel].”
Dolly Parton was joined at the premiere by cast members Julianne Hough and her mother Marriann, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Kyle Bornheimer, Andy Mientus, Ben Lawson, Jessica Collins, Sarah Shahi, Holly Taylor, Willa Fitzgerald, Shane McGhie, Tyler Crumley, Vanessa Rubio, Mac Davis, Aidan Langford, Jaclyn Betham, Mary Lane Haskell, Mary Donnelly Haskell and executive producers Sam Haskell and Patrick Sean Smith.
Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings will be released on Netflix on November 22nd.
FYI: Willa is wearing a Dolce & Gabbana dress, Gianvito Rossi shoes and Swarovski jewels.
