The new holiday romantic comedy Last Christmas, starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding, has been released in theaters and it’s time to talk about that big twist at the end of the film.

If you’ve been following the coverage of the movie throughout the past year, it’s probably no secret to you that there’s a twist and you might have already read theories about what was going to happen.

Emilia recently spoke out to say that she was upset how people were revealing spoilers before the movie was released. Now that fans have had a chance to see the movie, let’s discuss.

It’s not really a secret anymore that there’s a twist in the movie Last Christmas, though hopefully you haven’t heard what it is yet. Don’t worry, no spoilers will be in this post.

Ever since the first trailer for the new rom-com was released, fans have been coming up with theories about the new film, starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding.

Now, Emilia is sharing her thoughts on the Grinches out there who are spoiling the movie for others.

“It’s bloody annoying. Frustrating,” Emilia told IndieWire. “It’s more complicated than people are guessing.”

“Emma [Thompson] and Greg [Wise] wrote this script together, but they sent the script to all of their friends and it was only ready when their friends didn’t see the twist coming and couldn’t guess until it happens, so that’s where it comes from,” she added. “It’s just frustrating.”

Emilia does understand why people like to talk about spoilers, especially after starring in Game of Thrones.

“When it comes to signing petitions to reshoot the last season of a very popular TV show, or whether it’s spoiling a goddamn Christmas rom-com, people are able to do something about that,” she shared. “Our world’s literally on fire, so I think that there’s a lot of things outside of people’s control, so when it comes to this kind of stuff, they can do something with it and want to. It’s done with so much fervor, it’s done with a huge amount of energy and all that is, is misdirected energy.”

The 33-year-old actress was joined at the event by her leading man Henry Golding, who walked the carpet with wife Liv Lo.

Also in attendance were co-stars Emma Thompson and Michelle Yeoh, as well as director Paul Feig. Emma wrote the screenplay with her husband Greg Wise and they attended the premiere together.

The actors were joined by co-star and the film’s co-writer Emma Thompson, as well as director Paul Feig and co-writer Greg Wise, who is married to Emma in real life.

During the panel, Emilia and Henry talked about the first time they met in person. While Henry was expecting her to be like Khaleesi from Game of Thrones, she was actually sick that day.

“When I first met Henry.. yeah I was a sniveling ball of illness cause when you’ve been doing a show for ten years, what happens when you stop is you then get shingles and fever at the same time,” Emilia said. He added, “It’s the most amazing first meeting because I am expecting the queen of dragons.”

“It’s just myself, Emilia and Paul, doing sort of a table read and I’m like ‘oh man I am really excited’ because I am a massive fan of Game of Thrones obviously, and I get there and this poor little girl is like ‘Hi, I’m Emilia‘ [laughs],” Henry added. “I love her so much more because she was human and that goes back to saying that is what we yearn for to be who we are. I saw Emilia at her kind of who she is.”

Fans think they figured out a major plot twist in the upcoming Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding movie Last Christmas.

First, fans noticed that Henry‘s character wears the same outfit the whole film, and in addition, he doesn’t speak to anyone besides for Emilia‘s character in the whole trailer.

This fan theory, tweeted out after the trailer’s release, got some attention, “henry golding doesn’t speak to anyone but emilia clarke in that trailer. he also wears the same outfit multiple times. therefore, he is a ghost, or her conscience, or her guardian angel.”

Emilia‘s character in the film also had a medical emergency in her past, and fans believe Henry‘s character might have donated his heart to her. One fan tweeted, “[The movie is] based on the song Last Christmas so all I can think is that he literally gave her his heart. Like she had a transplant and he’s definitely the ghost of her heart donor.”
