Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (Law & Order: SVU) is one gripping drama.
The crime series, which is also the first spin-off of Law & Order by Dick Wolf, premiered back in September of 1999, and has since gone on to become the longest-running primetime U.S. live-action series in the history of TV, and the only live-action ’90s series still producing new episodes.
It features stars like Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler (who left in 2011), and Mariska Hargitay as Olivia Benson.
The iconic opening provides the premise: “In the criminal justice system, sexually-based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories.”
