Wesley Snipes is opening up about the upcoming Blade movie, which will star Mahershala Ali in the role for Marvel.
The 59-year-old actor played Blade in a series of movies from 1998 and 2004, and in a recent interview, opened up about his talk with Mahershala about taking on the part.

Regina King, Jamie Dornan, and Kirsten Dunst arrived in style for the awards event hosted by the Los Angeles Confidential Magazine, The Premiere Luxury, and Lifestyle Publication on Saturday evening (November 13) in Los Angeles.

Mahershala Ali shows off his sharp pinstriped suit on the red carpet next to Awkwafina at the premiere of Swan Song held at TCL Chinese Theatre on Friday (November 12) in Hollywood.
The two actors were joined by their co-stars Dax Rey, Lee Shorten, and Nyasha Hatendi, as well as director and screenwriter Benjamin Cleary.
Here’s a summary for the movie: Set in the near future, Swan Song is a powerful, emotional journey told through the eyes of Cameron (Ali), a loving husband and father diagnosed with a terminal illness who is presented with an alternative solution by his doctor (Glenn Close) to shield his family from grief.
As Cam grapples with whether or not to alter his family’s fate, he learns more about life and love than he ever imagined. Swan Song explores how far we will go, and how much we’re willing to sacrifice, to make a happier life for the people we love.
Naomie Harris also stars in the movie, which premieres on December 17 in theaters and streaming on Apple TV+.

Bassam Tariq is circling the director’s chair for Marvel‘s upcoming Blade movie, according to reports.
The Mogul Mowgli helmer was the top director who were considered for the movie, according to Deadline.
The site reports that Marvel boss “[Kevin] Feige, [Mahershala] Ali and studio execs have been meeting with dozen of candidates going all the way back to the fall, at one point considering writer-director options before ultimately separating the two and tapping [Stacy] Osei-Kuffour to pen the script.”
News of the new incarnation of Blade were revealed during the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, and it was revealed that Mahershala pitched the entire idea to Marvel.
Wesley Snipes first played the half-vampire superhero in a trio of movies, starting in 1998 and ending in 2004.

Mahershala Ali is opening up about his decision not to do sex scenes in films.
Speaking to Common on his podcast, the 46-year-old actor talked about his conscious decision on the 2008 film, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which he was supposed to share a love scene with Taraji P. Henson.
Mahershala‘s reason is that it goes against his religion of Islam.
“So my old agent called me and said, ‘Mahershala, you got the part.’ And I said, ‘There’s just one thing…There is that one sex scene where they kiss…If there’s a sex scene, I can’t do it.’”
He added, “I don’t do simulated sex.”
Mahershala went on to star in the film, and he explained how David Fincher simulated the scene that respected his beliefs.
“Taraji and I begin to kiss, and we fall out of the frame…It wasn’t clear if [Fincher] was trying to have like some bumping and grinding … which I doubt he was. But for me even … at that time, 15 years ago, I was still like, ‘OK, I can only go up to this point,’ just because of — just trying to hold a space of respect for my religion.”

Mahershala Ali is heading to Apple TV+!
The 46-year-old actor will be starring in the upcoming movie Swan Song directed by Benjamin Cleary, THR reports.

As of right now, plot details for the movie are being kept under wraps, but movie is being described as “genre-bending” and “layered.”
“Set in the near future, the film explores how far someone will go, and how much they’ll sacrifice, to make a happier life for the people they love,” THR added.
Mahershala will also serve as a producer on Swan Song.
Mahershala has won two Best Supporting Actor Oscars for his roles in 2016′s Moonlight and 2019′s Green Book.
Benjamin won an Oscar for his 2015 live-action short film Stutterer.
