Mark Hamill Had To Keep The 'I Am Your Father' Scene A Secret For Over a Year

Mark Hamill is opening up about one of the biggest scenes from Star Wars – the “I Am Your Father” scene.

The actor, who famously played Luke Skywalker in the movie franchise, revealed that the entire cast was kept in the dark about that infamous scene.

The revelation came after a fan tweeted about the scene, and called it “one of the best moments from #StarWars & @HamillHimself’s acting is so brilliant during this.”

“I would’ve also liked to have seen the cast/crew’s reaction when they first heard about this epic plot twist,” the fan added.

Mark replied to the note, and that’s when he shared that no one but him, director Irvin Kershner and George Lucas knew about the line.

“The cast & crew first learned of it when they saw the finished film. When we shot it, Vader’s line was ‘You don’t know the truth, Obi-Wan killed your father.’ Only [director] Irvin Kershner, [creator] George Lucas & I knew what would be dubbed in later. Agony keeping that secret for over a year!”

If you missed it, this one star revealed that they would give anything to be in a Star Wars project, even if it was just a stormtropper.

Mark Hamill Says Farewell to 'Star Wars' in Touching Letter to Fans

Mark Hamill is saying goodbye to Star Wars.

In a letter featured in The Skywalker Saga boxed set, the 68-year-old actor marks the end of Luke Skywalker’s story in the saga and looks back at his audition with Harrison Ford and the late Carrie Fisher from 40 years ago.

“What an extraordinary journey it’s been,” Mark wrote. “Back in 1976 when Carrie, Harrison, and I were testing for our roles in what was then called ‘The Adeventures of Luke Starkiller, as taken from the Journal of the Whills, Saga I: The Star Wars,’ there’s no way we could have known what an incredibly rich and imaginative set of adventures this obscure little space move would launch inspiring eight more chapters to tell the entire Skywalker story.”

Mark continued: “I am deeply thankful for your continued enthusiasm and dedication to George’s faraway galaxy, which will continue to grow with new storytellers building an even bigger galaxy filled with heroes, villains, action, romance, and, of course, the Force. May the Force bbe with you…always.”
