NCIS is finally back and giving fans some answers on just what happened to Gibbs in the season premiere on CBS.
The show, which moved nights, will be bringing the “band back together”, according to showrunner Steven D. Binder.
“All things are still possible with Gibbs,” he shared with TV Line about the state of the agent. “He’s not dead and we know he’s able to swim well enough to do that broad stroke we saw, but any number of levels of injury were possible for him at that point.”

Mark Harmon is returning to the show for a 19th season, CBS confirmed Thursday (April 15), via THR.
Following earlier reports in 2021 that Mark was looking to move on from the role he first originated on JAG back in 2003, he entered negotiations to return for another season upon learning the show would likely end if he retired.
It’s unclear whether he will be returning full-time on the show, as negotiations included the option to appear in a limited number of episodes. It’s not yet known how many episodes will be included in the new season, nor whether this is the final season of the show.

Pam Dawber made her first appearance ever on NCIS tonight.
The 69-year-old actress, and real life wife to Mark Harmon, played a journalist on the show, who Gibbs ultimately talks to about why he is on suspension from the agency.
Following the episode, Pam opened up about her appearance on the show, which she was adamant wasn’t a romantic one for Gibbs.
“I talked to the writers and the producers before I signed on and said, ‘If this is a romantic interest, I’m not interested,’” she recalled to Entertainment Weekly. “They said not at all, that’s not where we’re going with this.”
Pam also commented on the big speculation that Mark might be leaving the long-running series at the end of the season.
