Sophia Bush & Hilarie Burton React to 'One Tree Hill' Creator Getting Fired from 'The Royals'

Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton have both spoken out after Mark Schawhn, the creator of their series One Tree Hill, was fired from his current show The Royals amid mounting allegations of sexual harassment.

The actresses are among the many women who have spoken out against the television producer in recent months.

“43 women came forward. To the ones who did and to the ones who didn’t or couldn’t, I hope this news is a salve to your souls,” Sophia tweeted with a link to the news. “To the other predators out there? I hope this is a lesson that sometimes, even if it takes time, justice is served. You’re next.”

Mark Schwahn Fired From 'The Royals' Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

Mark Schwahn has been fired from The Royals amid sexual harassment allegations.

The 51-year-old showrunner, who was accused of harassment by not only The Royals cast, but also his previous show One Tree Hill, was previously suspended by the show in mid-November for an investigation to be held.

“We have concluded our investigation and Mark will not be returning to The Royals. The fourth season of the show has already completed production and will air as scheduled on E! in the spring,” Lionsgate TV said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

The fourth season will air as planned in 2018.

Hilarie Burton has bravely come forward to elaborate on the abuse allegations against One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn.

If you don’t know, female cast and crew came forward to support the sexual misconduct claims against the creator of the show with an open letter.

Hilarie said one time, Schwahn invited her to listen in on a phone call with a CW exec in his limo.

“I’m leaning in listening, and when it’s Dawn Ostroff‘s turn to talk, he just leans over and starts kissing me,” Hilarie told Variety. “I push him off, but I can’t say anything because he’s on the phone fighting for our show to stay on the air. I’m just in this position where I’m thinking, ‘You’ve got to take it, Hil. Just laugh it off. You’ll get to Wilmington in 45 minutes.’”

Hilarie also detailed another incident at a party after they wrapped filming an episode in Texas.

“I’m at the bar waiting to get drinks for the hairdresser and me, and he leans over and he kisses me in front of everybody,” she said. “Right on the mouth. It was something I had to get out of. It wasn’t a peck. It wasn’t ‘Hey, sis, how’s your day?’ It was a boyfriend kiss.”

Hilarie also shared a story where she went to a concert with Schwahn and his wife, as well as her co-star Danneel Harris. At the concert, Schwahn put his hand down Hilarie‘s pants.

Elizabeth Hurley is speaking out in a lengthy statement after the creator and showrunner of her E! series The Royals, Mark Schwahn, was accused of sexual harassment by 25 female cast and crew members of the show.

The actress says that she was unaware of the way Schwahn was treating her female co-stars and says that the news is a “shocking surprise.”

I have never thought of myself as unobservant, in fact quite the opposite, but I missed this and feel like I have let down a younger cast member. I could have helped her. I would have helped her. But I didn’t know,” the statement began.

The Female Cast & Crew of 'The Royals' Accuse Showrunner Mark Schwahn of Sexual Harassment

Following the news of showrunner Mark Schwahn‘s suspension from the show, the female cast and crew of The Royals are speaking out in a joint statement.

The statement, signed by 25 actresses, accuses Mark of “repeated unwanted sexual harassment.”

“Despite hearing rumours about his behaviour on One Tree Hill, those of us involved from the early stages went into the filming of the pilot hoping they were just that – rumours. By the time we wrapped this had irrevocably proven not to be the case,” the statement begins.

The statement follows the female cast and crew of One Tree Hill issuing a similar statement.

'The Royals' Showrunner Mark Schwahn Suspended From the Show Amid Sexual Misconduct Scandal

Mark Schwahn has been suspended from E!’s The Royals amid scandal.

The 51-year-old showrunner, who also worked on One Tree Hill, was officially suspended from the show as of Wednesday (November 15) due to allegations of sexual misconduct.

“E!, Universal Cable Productions and Lionsgate Television take sexual harassment allegations very seriously, investigate them thoroughly and independently, and take appropriate action. Lionsgate has suspended Mark Schwahn from The Royals as we continue our investigation,” the studios confirmed to Variety.

The female cast and crew of One Tree Hill, including Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton, recently came forward to support allegations in a joint statement made against Mark. See their full statement here.

The Royals wrapped production on its fourth season in September, which is due to premiere in March.

Sophia Bush & Hilarie Burton Support Sexual Harassment Claims Against 'One Tree Hill' Showrunner

Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton and the female cast and crew of One Tree Hill are supporting sexual harassment claims against showrunner Mark Schwahn.

The women are stepping forward after writer Audrey Wauchope tweeted about harassment from Mark on the show’s set, without publicly naming him.

In her tweets, she accused Mark of inappropriate touching and comments and even showing off photos of his actress girlfriend without clothing.

In a statement of support, Hilarie, Sophia and Bethany Joy Lenz say the cast and crew were treated in ways that were “traumatizing” and “downright illegal” and left many feeling manipulated “psychologically and emotionally.”

“More than one of us is still in treatment for post-traumatic stress. Many of us were put in uncomfortable positions and had to swiftly learn to fight back, sometimes physically, because it was made clear to us that the supervisors in the room were not the protectors they were supposed to be,” they wrote.
