Charles Melton opened up about his new movie May December, touching on both his costars and his diet in a new interview.

The 33-year-old Riverdale alum shares the screen with Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore in the movie, where he plays a character named Joe.

The role entailed putting on some weight to gain a certain “softness.” Speaking with W Magazine, Charles revealed the foods that he added to his diet, including pizza with a surprising topping.

The movie May December is expected to receive a lot of award nominations this season, but one thing might surprise you.

The Netflix film is being classified as a “comedy” at the Golden Globes, a decision that has left fans baffled as most people believe the film is clearly a drama.

Natalie Portman is considered a frontrunner in the Best Actress – Musical or Comedy category and the film likely will score a nomination for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy. If the film was eligible in the drama categories, there would be a lot more competition and a nomination wouldn’t be as possible.

Natalie was joined by co-stars Julianne Moore and Charles Melton at a UK screening of the movie on Wednesday (December 6) at the Curzon Bloomsbury theater in London, England.

Julianne and Charles will both be eligible in the supporting acting categories at the Golden Globes, which aren’t separated by drama and comedy.

The cast of May December is hard at work promoting the new Netflix movie now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over!

Natalie Portman, Charles Melton, and Julianne Moore attended a photo call for the film on Friday afternoon (November 17) at the Four Seasons Hotel at Beverly Hills in Los Angeles.

The three actors were joined by director Todd Haynes.

Here’s the synopsis: “Twenty years after their notorious tabloid romance gripped the nation, a married couple (Moore, Melton) buckles under the pressure when an actress (Portman) arrives to do research for a film about their past.”

In a new interview, Charles explained why he gained 40 pounds for the role.
