Dylan Mulvaney Brings the Ruffles to Attitude Awards 2023 to Receive Woman of the Year Honor

Dylan Mulvaney dons dark makeup and slicked down hair while hitting the carpet at the 2023 Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards held at The Roundhouse on Wednesday (October 11) in London.

The 26-year-old TikTok star is the recipient of the first Woman of the Year award at this year’s ceremony.

“I think that being honoured as Woman of the Year is a reminder in how to carry myself going forward, no matter the environment. I actually think it’s going to make for a good check-in before I put out anything into the world because now I can ask myself, ‘Is this Woman of the Year behaviour?’ So that’s sort of where my mind is,” Dylan previously shared about the honor.

“I especially love that it’s being given to me by a queer media outlet because the community is my highest priority when moving through these new doors that have opened for me in the past year,” she added. “And when transphobia is so rampant all over the world, and allies and news organisations aren’t sure how to support us, knowing that my community sees me this way and acknowledges my womanhood is all I need to keep going.”

Other stars stepping out for the awards show include actors Luke Evans, Russell Tovey, Mawaan Rizwan and Layton Williams, singers MNEK, Jess Glynne, Max George and Maisie Smith, Boy George and Ashley Roberts, as well as co-host Alan Carr.

Which LGBTQ+ Musician is the Best? Vote For Your Favorite Artist in Our Poll!

UPDATE: This poll is officially closed! Nearly 38,000 fans voted in our poll, and there was a very clear winner.

Taking nearly 84% of the vote, Adam Lambert raced to first place with 31,645 votes. Boy George followed behind in second place with 4,570 votes.

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the poll and huge congrats to Adam for winning!

Pride Month is more than halfway over, but we’re still celebrating all sorts of LGBTQ+ art! That means that we’ve been playing music from some of our favorite queer hitmakers on repeat.

It seems like the ideal time to recommend a queer artist to a friend or fellow reader by letting them know which one you consider to be the best.

Nowadays, we live in an era where so many musicians are open about their sexuality. Think of Hayley Kiyoko (known to many as Lesbian Jesus) and Lil Nas X (who continues to push boundaries every time he releases a new project).

They’re slaying the game, in part thanks to the groundbreaking work of others who came before them. Take Elton John and Melissa Etheridge, for example.

That’s still barely scratching the surface of the incredible pool of talented queer musicians who have graced us with solid-gold hits over the years. The list isn’t complete without the likes of Adam Lambert, Fletcher, Troye Sivan, Janelle Monae, Lady Gaga, Kim Petras, Sam Smith and so many others.

There’s so many artists, and we put together a poll so you could tell us who you consider to be the ultimate LGBTQ+ musician!

Jade Thirlwall looks super stylish in a black party dress for the 2021 Gay Times Honours held at Magazine London on Friday night (November 19) in England.

The 28-year-old Little Mix singer was one of the many honorees at the event, which was also attended by Ellie Goulding, Kim Petras and MNEK.

Model Munroe Bergdorf and musician Rina Sawayama were also honored with the British Community Trailblazer and British Excellence in Music.

Jade was honored with the Allyship award.

“I think the more that I learn about my allyship and what I can be doing and how I should be doing those things, the more passionate I’ve become in using my voice and using it in the right way,” she shared with the mag recently. “Sometimes it can feel a bit hard to know exactly what you’re meant to do to help and combat that.”

MNEK brings us the biting new music video for his single “Girlfriend,” and you can watch it right here!

Directed by MNEK in collaboration with upcoming director Jordan Rossi, the 24-year-old singer-songwriter switches up the well-worn cliché of the “cheating boyfriend” video narrative for the 21st century, contrasting one interpretation of what a conventional relationship should or could be and what it actually is.

“Building the aesthetic was one of my favourite parts of the process” Jordan explained in a statement. “Uzo (MNEK) had a really clear idea of what he wanted going in, so it was great to build on that and develop it further.”

MNEK is set to embark on a U.S. headlining tour that sees him touch down stateside for shows in six major markets across the country, beginning February 19 at Bowery Ballroom in New York City – Tickets are be available now here!

“This album for me is not just about making records. It’s not just about having hit singles. I think it’s really about rectifying that thing which, for me, I just never had someone to look up to,” MNEK says of the album, which also represents visibility for LGBTQ artists beyond just white pop stars.

Luther Vandross. Amazing. So talented. But he never came out because of fear of religion and his mum. I saw that and I thought I don’t want to be like that. The black experience is a different one. I needed someone to hear my truth from.”

Listen to Language below! You can buy and stream the album here.
