Christina Aguilera Live Tweets While Watching 'Mulan,' Reveals Which Version of 'Reflection' She Likes Best

Christina Aguilera went on Twitter on Friday night (September 4) and live-tweeted while watching the live-action remake of Mulan while at home with her family.

The 39-year-old singer got her big break while singing the pop version of “Reflection” for the 1998 movie and she re-recorded the song for the remake.

During the live-tweet session, Christina was asked to reveal her favorite version of “Reflection.”

“I am partial to the new version of Reflection for sure. Although I look back and smile at the version I did as a teen…I can hear the youth of a girl who doesn’t fully know herself or the power of her instrument yet. I’ve gotten to know myself better over the past 20 years and I am more aware of what I am capable of- having developed a deeper and more self assured tone, owning my voice now as a grown matured & experienced woman,” she replied.

Make sure to read the full thread to find out all of the things Christina revealed. You can also click through the gallery to see photos of her at the Mulan red carpet premiere back in March.

'Mulan' Opening Credits Feature Shanghai Disneyland's Enchanted Storybook Castle

Mulan made its big debut on Disney+ today, and fans got a big treat just a few seconds into watching the live action movie.

The opening credits don’t feature Cinderella’s Castle from Walt Disney World, as is standard for most of the movies put out by Disney.

For Mulan, the opening credits actually featured the castle from Shanghai Disneyland, called the Enchanted Storybook Castle, and it delighted fans all over social media.

“The Disney intro for Mulan uses the Shanghai Disney castle, I legit screamed,” one fan wrote with a screengrab of the castle.

Another added, “I love how they use the Shanghai Disneyland castle for the logo in #Mulan !!!! #GoldOpen.”

Dianne Doan, who played Lonnie, the daughter of Mulan in Disney’s Descendants, even reacted to the opening.

“Be still my heart!!! It’s been 5 mins and I’m already screaming SparklesRed heartLoudly crying faceSmiling face with heart-shaped eyes MULAN available Disney+ NOW!! #Mulan #DisneyPlus #goldopen,” she wrote.

“The beginning of Mulan is the Shanghai Castle 🥺😫💗,” one more tweeted.

Mulan, starring Yifei Liu, Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Tzi Ma, Yoson An, and more is streaming now on Disney+ Premier Access priced at $29.99.

Other movies that have incorporated other castles in the opening credits include Maleficent, Beauty and the Beast, and Lady and the Tramp.

If you missed it, one of Yifei‘s co-stars praised her ahead of the premiere. See what they said here…

'Mulan' Soundtracks from 1998 & 2020 - Listen to Both Versions Here!

The live-action remake of Disney’s Mulan is out now and while it’s not a musical, there is still an incredible score that pays homage to the animated movie.

The original film gave us the classic song “Reflection” and you can hear pieces of that song throughout the score of the live-action remake.

The 1998 movie features a score by Jerry Goldsmith and original songs by Matthew Wilder and David Zippel. The film earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score!

The score for the 2020 movie was composed by Harry Gregson-Williams, who previously has composed the scores for films like The Chronicles of Narnia, The Martian, the Shrek franchise, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The soundtrack for the new movie also features Christina Aguilera‘s new original song “Loyal Brave True” and her updated version of “Reflection.” It even features Yifei Liu performing “Reflection!”

You can purchase the soundtrack for the 1998 movie on iTunes here and the 2020 movie on iTunes here.

Why is Boycott 'Mulan' Trending? See Yifei Liu's Comments That Sparked a Controversy

Yifei Liu, the star of Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan, was involved in a major controversy last year and now it has resurfaced amid more calls to boycott the film.

Back in August 2019, the Chinese actress voiced her support for the police in Hong Kong amid anti-police brutality protests.

On the Chinese social media platform Weibo, Yifei retweeted an image shared by the Communist Party’s page People’s Daily. The post said “I support the Hong Kong police; you can beat me up now” in Chinese and in English it added, “What a shame for Hong Kong.” She also added the hashtag “IAlsoSupportTheHongKongPolice” to her post, along with a heart emoji.

Amid the controversy last year, Yifei skipped an appearance at D23.

In an interview with EW, which was published this week, Yifei responded to the controversy. The outlet noted that her response was prepared and essentially repeated what she had already said about the matter.

“It’s obviously a very complicated situation, and I’m not an expert. I hope this all gets resolved soon,” Yifei told EW.

Pro-democracy supporters in Hong Kong are calling for a boycott of the movie due to Yifei‘s previous comments.

Is 'Mulan' Worth $30 to Watch Now? Read These Reviews!

Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan is now available to watch on the streaming service Disney+, but you need to pay a $29.99 fee to gain access to the movie.

So, is the movie worth spending an extra $30, on top of your Disney+ subscription costs, to watch three months before it’s available for free? Here’s what critics are saying!

The film currently has an 81% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 148 reviews counted. The site’s Critics Consensus is: “It could have told its classic story with greater depth, but the live-action Mulan is a visual marvel that serves as a stirring update to its animated predecessor.”

See what some individual critics had to say below:

Chicago Sun-TimesRichard Roeper: “The international cast is nothing short of great, led by Yifei Liu’s movie star turn as a boundaries-shattering, stereotype-defying hero-warrior for her time and for ours.”

Washington Post‘s Ann Hornaday: “Little girls might be better off sticking with the cartoon for now; but this opulent, ambitious production and Liu’s focused, intrepid performance at its center, gives them something to grow into.”

Hollywood Reporter‘s Inkoo Kang: “Liu has enough charisma for a lead performance, but the script gives her no depth and no meaningful relationships to work with.”

Variety‘s Peter Debruge: “One could complain that hardly a single frame feels original, but there’s no denying how striking it all looks.”

TheWrap‘s Steve Pond: “[I]f you strip away the things that make this such an unusual release in such an unusual year, you’ll find a pretty good movie and one that approaches this story with heart and with fresh eyes.”
