'NCIS' Season 21 - 7 Cast Members Set to Return!

NCIS is back on TV tonight (February 12)!

Fans of the show have been eagerly anticipating the return of the hit TV series for months.

CBS revealed that NCIS would return for Season 21 on Monday, February 12 at 9 p.m. ET!

We also know which main cast members have renewed their contracts, and are set to return for the ninth season.

'NCIS' Writers Reveal How Late David McCallum's Ducky Will Be Written Off Show, First Photos from Episode Unveiled

Longtime NCIS actor David McCallum sadly passed away in September 2023 and his character Ducky will be written off the long-running CBS series when it returns soon.

The 21st season of NCIS premieres on February 12 and a tribute episode for Ducky will air during episode two of the season on February 19.

CBS has revealed the official synopsis of the episode and writers are speaking out about how they will address McCallum‘s death. The network also released a gallery full of photos from the episode, which you can see here.

3 'NCIS' Veteran Characters Will Appear in 'NCIS: Origins' Prequel Series!

NCIS: Origins is coming soon, and the series will feature several familiar faces!

The NCIS prequel CBS series, set in 1991, will center around how the character of Leroy Jethro Gibbs came to be who he is today.

The show sees Gibbs as a “newly minted special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks,” via the network.

CBS has ordered an NCIS prequel series that will focus on a younger version of Mark Harmon‘s iconic character Gibbs.

Harmon and his son Sean are producing the new show together and while Sean played the younger version on NCIS, he has opted to not reprise the role in the upcoming series.

Deadline reports that “NCIS: Origins begins in 1991, years prior to the events of NCIS, and follows a young Gibbs. In the series, Gibbs starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks.”

'NCIS' Prequel Series About Young Gibbs in the Works with Mark Harmon Producing Alongside His Son

NCIS: Origins is officially in the works at CBS and the network has given the new show a “straight-to-series order.”

Mark Harmon and his son Sean are teaming up with NCIS writers-producers, Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North, to produce the new series about a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs.

This isn’t the first time that a young Gibbs will be featured in the NCIS franchise as Sean actually played a younger version of his father’s iconic character in seven episodes from 2008 through 2020.
