Norm Macdonald, who was formerly on Saturday Night Live as one of the Weekend Update anchors and who was a fan favorite comedian, has sadly passed away at the age of 61.
He was secretly battling cancer for the last nine years, his producing partner and friend Lori Jo Hoekstra confirmed to Deadline. He was apparently determined to keep his health struggles private from his family, friends and fans.
“He was most proud of his comedy,” Lori Jo told Deadline. “He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or any of his loved ones saw him. Norm was a pure comic. He once wrote that ‘a joke should catch someone by surprise, it should never pander.’ He certainly never pandered. Norm will be missed terribly.”
He was on SNL from 1993 to 1998.
Our thoughts are with Norm‘s loved ones during this tragic time. We have sadly lost all of these stars in 2021.

Netflix ordered 10 episodes of the show. David Letterman will serve as the location scout. A premiere date is still to be announced.
