A spokesperson explains that she is “very sorry and distressed” for wearing the Blackamoor brooch in a statement to TMZ.
The brooch features a dark-skinned man wearing a turban. The line of jewelry is known for its depictions of people of color in positions of servitude.
A Kensington Palace-connected source tells TMZ that the brooch was not worn to intentionally insult Meghan, who is biracial, or people of color.
Princess Michael has had past controversies involving race.
