R'Bonney Gabriel Wins Miss Universe 2022 For United States, Becomes First Filipino-American to Win Miss USA & Miss Universe

R’Bonney Gabriel made history when she was crowned Miss Universe 2022 on Saturday (January 14).

The 28-year-old fashion designer beat out the competition, becoming the first Filipino-American to win both Miss USA and Miss Universe.

The competition, which marks the 71st Miss Universe pageant, was held at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center and was hosted by Jeannie Mai and Olivia Culpo, who won in 2012.

R’Bonney Gabriel‘s runner up was Amanda Dudamel of Venezuela. Andreina Martinez Founier of the Dominican Republic came in third place, according to E! News.

According to her bio on the pageant’s website, R’Bonney Gabriel “is an eco-friendly fashion designer, model, and sewing instructor with an excitement for life.”

“As the first Filipino-American to win Miss USA, she shares the importance of embracing your culture. R’Bonney’s mission is for women and young girls to see themselves in her, and feel inspired to conquer their goals by owning who they are,” the bio continues.

Miss USA Winner R'Bonney Gabriel Reacts to Allegations That Pageant Was 'Rigged'

The 2022 Miss USA pageant was held this week and R’Bonney Gabriel made history as the first Filipino-American woman to win the title.

In addition to her history-making win, R’Bonney was also the first Asian-American woman to be named Miss Texas USA.

In the days after the pageant, other contestants have spoken out with accusations that the competition was rigged.

Miss Montana Heather Lee O’Keefe alleged that “most of the Miss USA contestants feel very strongly that there was favoritism towards Miss Texas USA and we have the receipts to prove it.”
