Rose McGowan Looks Back at Iconic VMAs Dress, Explains Why She Wore It

Rose McGowan is looking back at her iconic moment at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards, where she wore a completely see-through dress while walking the red carpet with then-boyfriend Marilyn Manson.

In a new interview, the 46-year-old actress says it was her “first big public appearance” after allegedly being raped by Harvey Weinstein in 1997. Rose decided to use the moment to take back her power.

“I just felt like, ‘Oh Hollywood, would you want a body just that you can use and throw away? Then I’ve got one for you!’” Rose told Yahoo. “It was like at the end of Gladiator when he comes out and he’s like, ‘Are you not entertained?’”

“And if you look at me, I did it with power,” Rose added. “I didn’t do it with my hand on my hip to be sexy. Most of the women that are dressed like that on the red carpet, it’s a calculated, sexy move to turn people on. Mine was like, ‘I’m gonna f–k with your brain. I’m going to blow your brain up.’ And nobody had done it.”

Rose said it was “kind of hard” to deal with the criticism for her look.

“They slut shamed me like crazy,” she said. “I hadn’t really ever dealt with global media shaming.”

Despite all of this, Rose has no regrets.

“You know, when you do stuff sometimes on instinct and in a mood, like when a mood overtakes you on, you analyze what it was that brought you to that mood or that choice,” she said. “So, I’ve certainly had a lot of time to analyze and I’m looking at the timeline. But I completely understand why I did what I did.”

Earlier this week, Rose‘s feud with a former co-star escalated on Twitter.

Rose McGowan Hits Back at Alyssa Milano, Claims She Made 'Charmed' Set 'Toxic AF'

Rose McGowan and Alyssa Milano‘s Twitter feud is heating up.

It all started on Friday (August 21) when Alyssa, 47, called out her former Charmed co-star for falsely claiming that the Democrats have achieved nothing for the country.

“Rose and anyone bleating the same ‘dEmOcRaTs DoNt HeLp PeOpLe’ nonsense, your lies are going to hurt people less privileged than you. It’s the kind of thing an ACTUAL fraud would do. Thousands of people are dying a day but you go on with your hyperbolic attention seeking tweets,” Alyssa wrote along with a thread of tweets of things that Democrats have done for the United States.

Rose, 46, then hit back at Alyssa on Twitter, claiming she “stole” the Me Too movement, while also claiming she made the Charmed set a “toxic” work environment.

“1) You stole #metoo (a brilliant communication tool, not a movement) from Tarana. You co-opted my movement, the Cultural Reset, for fame, jealous of me for outing my rapist. You made 250k per week on Charmed. (Con’t)” Rose first tweeted.

“2) You threw a fit in front of the crew, yelling, ‘They don’t pay me enough to do this s–t!’” Rose continued. “Appalling behavior on the daily. I cried every time we got renewed because you made that set toxic AF. Now, get off my coattails you f–king fraud.”

Rose then uploaded a clip from her 2018 with Nightline, where she said she wasn’t a fan of Alyssa‘s, adding, “I don’t like her… ’cause I think she’s a lie.”

In response the clip, Alyssa tweeted, “Do you think we can get #AlyssaMilanoIsALie to trend number 1 before I fall asleep? Everyone saying sweet things—I see you. Thank you. Everyone saying horrible things—I see you. F–ck off. Hurt people hurt people. Empowered people empower people. Loved people love people.”

This isn’t the first time Rose and Alyssa feuded on social media. Earlier this year, Alyssa explained why she had been silent on the allegations against Joe Biden and then Rose went after her.

Alyssa Milano Calls Out Rose McGowan for Saying Democrats 'Have Achieved Nothing,' Gives Proof They Have

Alyssa Milano is calling out her former Charmed co-star Rose McGowan for falsely claiming that the Democrats have achieved nothing.

Rose took to Twitter during the final night of the Democratic National Convention to share her controversial opinion. She tweeted, “What have the Democrats done to solve ANYTHING? Help the poor? No. Help black & brown people? No. Stop police brutality? No. Help single mothers? No. Help children? No. You have achieved nothing. NOTHING. Why did people vote Trump? Because of you motherf–kers.”

She also wrote, “You are the season of darkness. @JoeBiden @dnc You are monsters. You are frauds. You are the lie.”

Alyssa screenshot that tweet and replied by writing a “thread of all the things the Democratic Party has done to make the world a better place.”

“Rose and anyone bleating the same ‘dEmOcRaTs DoNt HeLp PeOpLe’ nonsense, your lies are going to hurt people less privileged than you. It’s the kind of thing an ACTUAL fraud would do. Thousands of people are dying a day but you go on with your hyperbolic attention seeking tweets,” Alyssa concluded the thread.

Earlier this year, Alyssa explained why she had been silent on the allegations against Biden and then Rose went after her.

Rose McGowan Accuses Director Alexander Payne of Sexual Misconduct

Rose McGowan is bravely coming forward and accusing director Alexander Payne of sexual misconduct. The alleged incident occurred when she was only 15 years old.

Alexander Payne. You sat me down & played a soft-core porn movie you directed for Showtime under a different name. I still remember your apartment in Silverlake. You are very well-endowed. You left me on a street corner afterwards. I was 15,” the actress – who is now 46 years old – shared on Twitter in the early morning hours of Monday (August 17).

Rose then tweeted out a photo of her headshot at age 15 and said, “I just want an acknowledgement and an apology. I do not want to destroy.”

Alexander Payne is a director and has won 2 Oscars, both for adapted screenplay, for The Descendants in 2012 and Sideways in 2005.

The incident would have happened around 1988 when Payne was 1988.

Rose also accused Harvey Weinstein of raping her in 1997.

Just last month, Rose spoke out about another very famous figure and called for his arrest.

Rose McGowan Calls for Bill Clinton to Be Arrested After Ghislaine Maxwell's Arrest

Rose McGowan is publicly calling out former President Bill Clinton in a new tweet after the arrest of Jeffrey Epstein‘s alleged accomplice in sex trafficking, Ghislaine Maxwell.

Over the weekend, Rose posted a photo of Harvey Weinstein, Epstein and Maxwell posing for a photo together with red X’s over their faces. Weinstein and Maxwell are both currently in police custody and Epstein died by suicide in prison. As a caption to the photo, Rose posted, “Now get Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew.”

Prince Andrew has had known ties with Epstein.

In the Netflix documentary Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, a longtime tech worker on the Epstein‘s Caribbean island claims to have seen Clinton there with him.

“This was a lie the first time it was told, and it isn’t true today, no matter how many times it’s repeated,” Clinton’s spokesman, Angel Urena, has said denying any connection.

Rose recently called out a different male celebrity for making an inappropriate comment to her.

Rose McGowan Accuses Bill Maher of Making This Inappropriate & Lewd Comment to Her

Rose McGowan is accusing Bill Maher of making an inappropriate and lewd comment to her during an appearance on his talk show in the 1990s.

She tweeted at him over the weekend, “Here’s a memory I’d like to share with you. I bet you don’t remember, but I sure do. I was so excited to be on your show & get to flex my mind instead of my face. Here’s what happened. All I can say, Bill, you got the face you deserved.”

She then added, “I was on your show Politically Incorrect in the late 90s- as the show returned from a commercial break, you leaned over to me & [sic] whispered in my hear, ‘my parents didn’t give me a good face, but they did give me a huge c–k.’ I could feel your hot breath on my ear as an image of both your hideous face & alleged big c–k flashed in my mind. Both turned my stomach. I’ve always wondered what you say & do to the girls that aren’t famous.”

This is not the first time Rose has called out a famous male celebrity. She did so just a few weeks ago.

Rose McGowan's Debut Album Is Premiering This Week

Rose McGowan is about to release her debut album, Planet 9.

The 46-year-old entertainer has been working on the album for five years.

“When I was a small child going through tough times, I created a utopian world in my mind and I named it Planet 9. I felt safe on this invented planet of mine. I also used to wonder what sounds existed on my planet. As life went on, I forgot about how special my planet was, I forgot I could go there in times of trouble,” Rose explains of the inspiration behind her album.

She continued in her statement, “Six years ago, astronomers found a new planet they named Planet 9 – it’s the new planet that demoted Pluto to a star. Holy s! They found my Planet 9! Around the same time, I met some French electronic musicians, and I decided to make music that has the power to lift your spirit. I know this, art heals.”

Planet 9 takes you on a very special journey. I am not trying to be a pop star, I will not be performing this album,” Rose adds. “By using my knowledge of cinema sound design, I carefully created the sounds and words for a better place, an unknown world in our own mind that we can all travel to. Planet 9 is an artistic endeavor that I hope will help others meditate in a unique way.”

Tracks on the album include: “Canes Venatici”, “Sirene”, “Green Gold” and “We Are Free”.

Planet 9 is set to be out on Friday, April 24. You can see a preview for the album below!
