Raya and the Last Dragon is No. 1!

The Disney film opened bringing in an estimated $8.6 million during its first weekend at the box office, THR reported Sunday (March 7).

The film’s soft landing was “likely due to the refusal of several key chains — including giant Cinemark Theatres — to carry the fantasy-adventure. That’s because they wanted more generous terms since Raya debuted simultaneously on Disney+ for $30,” according to the outlet.

Overseas, Raya and the Last Dragon opened to $17.6 million from 32 markets for a global total of $26.2 million.

The movie takes us on an exciting, epic journey to the fantasy world of Kumandra, where Raya, a lone warrior, must track down the legendary last dragon to stop an evil force that has returned after 500 years to once again threaten her homeworld. Find out who voices each role!

Raya and the Last Dragon is currently in theaters, but you can also watch the film from the comfort of your own home with Disney+ if you pay the extra $29.99 fee for Premier Access.

Critics definitely think the movie is worth seeing as it currently has a 95% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The final To All the Boys movie just premiered on Netflix and since the cast couldn’t gather for a red carpet premiere, the streaming service hosted a virtual premiere.

Lana Condor, Noah Centineo, and the rest of the cast of To All the Boys: Always and Forever got dressed up for the event on Friday (February 12).

Other cast members who attended included Janel Parrish, Anna Cathcart, Ross Butler, Madeleine Arthur, Emilija Baranac, Trezzo Mahoro, and Sarayu Blue.

Lana‘s parents and boyfriend Anthony De La Torre also posed for photos with her.

“TO ALL THE BOYS: ALWAYS AND FOREVER PREMIERE!!! I want to say so much… but all I’ll say is: I. Love. You. You know who you are, to each and every one of you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything. These movies are dedicated to you, because of you, and for you. Always and forever,” Lana wrote on Instagram.

The brand new trailer for Raya and the Last Dragon is finally here!

Here’s a synopsis of the upcoming film: Raya and the Last Dragon takes us on an exciting, epic journey to the fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons lived together long ago in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than a dragon to save the world—it’s going to take trust and teamwork as well.

The film features an all-star voice cast including Kelly Marie Tran as the intrepid warrior Raya, Awkwafina as the legendary dragon, Sisu, Gemma Chan as Raya’s nemesis, Namaari, Daniel Dae Kim as Raya’s visionary father, Benja, and Sandra Oh as Namaari’s powerful mother, Virana. Here’s the synopsis of the film, set to debut on Netflix in just a few weeks: As Lara Jean Covey prepares for the end of high school and the start of adulthood, a pair of life-changing trips lead her to reimagine what life with her family, friends, and Peter will look like after graduation.

Janel Parrish, Anna Cathcart, Ross Butler, Madeleine Arthur, Sarayu Blue and John Corbett are also all set to star.

The film will debut on Netflix on February 12, 2021. There is some bittersweet news about the popular franchise that was just revealed this week.
