Oprah Winfrey Says Russell Simmons Attempted to Pressure Her to Drop Out of Documentary

Oprah Winfrey was originally going to be an executive producer on an upcoming documentary about women who have accused Russell Simmons of sexual misconduct, but she has dropped out of the project.

The media mogul and former talk show host has pulled the movie from her slate at Apple over creative differences with the filmmakers.

Now, Oprah has revealed that Russell actually attempted to pressure her into exiting the project.

“He did reach out multiple times and attempted to pressure me,” Oprah told The New York Times. He told her that the woman at the center of the film was lying, but she says she still believed her, though there were some inconsistencies with her account.

“I told him directly in a phone call that I will not be pressured either into, or out of, backing this film,” she said. “I am only going to do what I believe to be the right thing.”

Oprah received some guidance from her friend, filmmaker Ava DuVernay.

“She’s got Simmons on one side pressuring her, and then she’s got a film on the other side that she doesn’t agree with,” Ava said. “So if she walks away from the film she seems like she’s caving to Simmons, and if she stays with the film then she’s putting her name on something that she feels doesn’t quite hit the mark.”

Oprah Winfrey Leaves Russell Simmons Accuser Doc & Pulls From Apple TV+

Oprah Winfrey is stepping away from the Russell Simmons accuser documentary and canceling its plans to air on Apple TV+.

The 65-year-old executive is parting ways with the doc two weeks before it was slated to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

The documentary focused on a former music executive who has accused the 62-year-old entrepreneur and co-founder of Def Jam Recordings of sexual misconduct. The official Sundance description stated that the exec is Drew Dixon.

“I have decided that I will no longer be executive producer on The Untitled Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering documentary and it will not air on Apple TV+,” Oprah told THR. “First and foremost, I want it to be known that I unequivocally believe and support the women. Their stories deserve to be told and heard. In my opinion, there is more work to be done on the film to illuminate the full scope of what the victims endured, and it has become clear that the filmmakers and I are not aligned in that creative vision.”

Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering are talented filmmakers,” Oprah Winfrey added. “I have great respect for their mission but given the filmmakers’ desire to premiere the film at the Sundance Film Festival before I believe it is complete, I feel it’s best to step aside. I will be working with Time’s Up to support the victims and those impacted by abuse and sexual harassment.”

Luann de Lesseps Accuses Russell Simmons of Groping Her

Luann de Lesseps is the latest woman to come forward and accuse Russell Simmons of sexual misconduct.

The 52-year-old Real Housewives of New York City star shared in a new interview with The Daily Beast that the 60-year-old music producer allegedly touched her inappropriately “around three summers ago” at a hotel in Miami.

“He grabbed my ass in an elevator, he was just a pig,” Luann said. “I haven’t told anybody about that before. I was grossed out. I was like ‘How dare you.’ He invaded me, he took advantage of me, being who he is, thinking he is all ‘it,’ all everything. He thought he could just do that. I looked at him and said, ‘Don’t ever do that again.’”

Luann went on to say that he “didn’t apologize” after the incident.

Russell Simmons Being Sued For $10 Million Following New Harassment Claim

Russell Simmons is facing another sexual assault lawsuit, according to THR.

The 60-year-old music executive is being sued for $10 million by an anonymous woman, just two months after a different woman filed a $5 million lawsuit.

Both women report that they were raped by Russell, which caused emotional distress.

The woman who filed the lawsuit today says she met Russell when she was taking her son to a concert and accepted his invitation to attend an after party at his hotel for drinks and to go clubbing.

Instead, the woman claims Russell asked to go to his hotel room to pick something up where he forced himself on her.

Russell denied the new claims in a statement, saying, “I vehemently deny all the allegations made against me. They have shocked me to my core as I have never been abusive or violent in any way in my relations with women. I have submitted myself to multiple lie detector tests. I denied forced sex and sexual harassment allegations brought against me in each test; I also answered no to the question, ‘Have you ever physically forced any woman to have sexual intercourse?’ I passed all of the lie detector tests.”

Russell Simmons Takes Lie Detector Test to Prove Innocence Amid Rape Allegations

Russell Simmons is on a mission to prove his innocence after a series of rape allegations surfaced in an explosive New York Times report.

The 60-year-old music mogul is taking a lie detector test to prove he did not sexually assault Keri Claussen Khalighi. TMZ has obtained an image of Russell taking the test on Wednesday (December 13).

According to Russell‘s attorneys, he passed the test “with flying colors, and plans to repeat the test for allegations made by four other women.”

“Today, I begin to properly defend myself. I will prove without any doubt that I am innocent of all rape charges. Today, I will focus on “The Original Sin” (Keri Claussen), the claim that created this insane pile on of my #MeToo. Stay tuned! We’ll share information today… And tomorrow the case of Jenny Lumet. My intention is not to diminish the #MeToo movement in anyway, but instead hold my accusers accountable. #NotMe Again, this is not a movement against or even in conjunction with #Metoo . It’s just a statement about my innocence,” the 60-year-old music mogul wrote on Instagram.

Russell Simmons Accused of Rape by Three Women

Three women have stepped forward in a new report by The New York Times claiming that they were raped by Russell Simmons.

In the report, singer Tina Baker alleges that the 60-year-old music mogul raped her while operating as her manager during the early ’90s. Music journalist Toni Sallie alleges that he raped her in 1988, while former Def Jam employee Drew Dixon claims she was raped by the music mogul in 1995.

While Russell already stepped down following an initial allegation of sexual assault made by writer Jenny Lumet, he has denied these latest allegations in a statement issued to Variety.

“I vehemently deny all these allegations. These horrific accusations have shocked me to my core and all of my relations have been consensual,” he said.

“What I will not accept is responsibility for what I have not done. I have conducted my life with a message of peace and love. Although I have been candid about how I have lived in books and interviews detailing my flaws, I will relentlessly fight against any untruthful character assassination that paints me as a man of violence.”
