'The Chase' Was a Game Show Network Show for Years Ahead of Its ABC Primetime Debut

ABC is debuting the primetime version of the game show The Chase tonight (January 7) and what you might not know is that this show has been around for years!

The Chase, which is an adaptation of a British quiz show, premiered on Game Show Network back in 2013.

The original American version of the show was hosted by Brooke Burns and featured Mark Labbett, who was nicknamed The Beast, as the show’s “chaser.” The show has been nominated at the Daytime Emmy Awards three times.

The Chase is a heart-racing quiz show where three competitors must pit their wits and face off against the Chaser, a ruthless quiz genius determined to stop them from winning cash prizes. Each hour-long episode is a fast-paced battle of brain power, where contestants are challenged to think faster than they ever thought possible to answer up to 166 questions across all topics.

In the ABC primetime version of The Chase, Jeopardy‘s James Holzhauer, Ken Jennings, and Brad Rutter take turns serving as the Chaser while The View‘s Sara Haines is the host.

'The View' Sets Season 24 Premiere Date - Guests & Co-Host Lineup Revealed!

The View is coming back!

Season 24 of the long-running television show is set to premiere on Tuesday (September 8) at 11 a.m. ET, ABC announced on Friday (September 4).

Sara Haines will be returning as a co-host, having already been on the show from 2016 to 2018 for Seasons 20-21. She also co-hosted ABC News’ GMA 3: Strahan, Sara & Keke more recently.

“I grew up watching The View, and what this show stands for – different women, different backgrounds and different points of view – just speaks to my soul. I feel like I caught a shooting star twice. To once again be a part of the dialogue where I can share, discuss and disagree alongside these powerful and strong women is a tremendous honor. I feel very lucky,” she said in a statement.

Season 24 will premiere with the majority of the co-hosts – Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Meghan McCain – appearing from home amid the pandemic, with Sara broadcasting from the show’s NYC studio.

Guests in the upcoming season include Michael Cohen, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, Jane Fonda, Robin Roberts, former Ohio Governor John Kasich, Eva Longoria, Gabrielle Union, Pete and Chasten Buttigieg, Brian Stelter, Janelle Monáe and Gabourey Sidibe, Evan Rachel Wood and Chelsea Clinton.

Political commentator Ana Navarro continues in her role as guest co-host, making regular appearances on Fridays and throughout the season.

The 42-year-old star, who co-hosted for two seasons from the fall of 2016 to the summer of 28, will return for Season 24 of the ABC daytime talk show, Variety reported Friday (August 14).

Prior to The View, Sara was an anchor for GMA Weekend.

ABC Is Cancelling ‘Strahan, Sara and Keke’ (Report)

Strahan, Sara and Keke will soon be cancelled, according to a new report.

ABC is set to give the show the ax, according to Page Six on Thursday (July 2).

The show, which is hosted by Michael Strahan, Sara Haines and Keke Palmer, is reportedly being replaced with GMA 3: What You Need to Know.

The show was originally taken off the air back in March and replaced with Pandemic: What You Need to Know, a daily coronavirus report that was “initially supposed to be a two-week experiment,” but ended up doing “really well,” according to a source.

“We’re proud of our teams at SSK and GMA3 and how quickly they transitioned to producing a daily show to give people the news and information they need during an unprecedented pandemic, and conversations continue about how the show will evolve in the months ahead,” a spokesperson said.

ABC has yet to announce that the show is officially over, however.

“It’s unfortunate, but the hope is that they’ll be a big part of [GMA 3] down the road. Everyone was feeling good about their show. It was nominated for three Daytime Emmys. It finally found its rhythm. Ratings were stabilized and were starting to tick up when they went off-air,” an insider told Page Six.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show is also facing rumors that it may not return: here’s the latest update.
