Tennis Player Simona Halep Suspended by ITIA for Four Years, Serena Williams Seemingly Reacts With Serious Shade

Simona Halep, who was at one point the number one female tennis player in the world, has been suspended from the game for four years.

The 31-year-old Romanian athlete was previously suspended by the International Tennis Integrity Agency back in October 2022 after she tested positive for the anti-anemia drug Roxadustat at the US Open.

Now, the ITIA has announced that Simona will be ineligible to play professional tennis until October 2026.

Simona has announced plans to appeal the decision and she will take legal action against the supplement company that she claims gave her contaminated goods. She said in a lengthy statement, “I refuse to accept their decision of a four-year ban… I am continuing to train and do everything in my power to clear my name of these false allegations and return to the court.”

Serena Williams, who was defeated by Simona at Wimbledon in 2019, has seemingly reacted to the news and she appears to be throwing some serious shade.

Serena Williams & Maria Sharapova Lead Nike's Queens of the Future Event!

Serena Williams strikes a pose on the court while attending Nike’s Queens of the Future event held on Tuesday (August 20) in New York City.

The 37-year-old tennis superstar was joined by Maria Sharapova as they showed out to usher in a new era of female tennis players alongside Naomi Osaka, Sloane Stephens, Madison Keys, Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep, Aryna Sabalenka and Elina Svitolina.

The event was held to inspire the youth players from the New York Junior Tennis & Learning program and United States Tennis Association, and included a rotating round of queen of the court, and a quick doubles match.

“When you’re an athlete, there’s so much more than just doing your sport. There’s so much more that you’re involved with,” Maria Sharapova told W mag at the vent. “The inspiration aspect that you’re giving out to the world is on another level. Sometimes you don’t really acknowledge it because you want to be so present in what you do, but you also realize how you inspire so many young girls and boys to pick up the sport, to give it a chance, to learn from it, to mature from it. There’s so many lessons that you learn from sport in general, and tennis is such an individual sport, so a lot of the time you’re on your own. There’s really nothing like it in terms of education.”

That same evening, Serena Williams was spotted joining Gigi Hadid and her rumored boyfriend Tyler Cameron for dinner.
