Michelle Pfeiffer Books First TV Role in Decades, Will Play Betty Ford

Michelle Pfeiffer will be starring in her first TV series in decades!

The 62-year-old three-time Oscar-nominated actress will be starring as Betty Ford in the upcoming Showtime anthology series The First Lady.

It was also just announced that The Undoing‘s Susanne Bier will be directing all episodes of the series, which will also star Viola Davis as Michelle Obama.

THR reports that the show will “focus on Michelle Obama, Betty Ford and Eleanor Roosevelt and the roles they played in shaping impactful and sometimes world-changing decisions during their time in the White House.”

The First Lady marks Michelle‘s first-ever series regular role in a television series since the beginning of her career in the late ’70s and early ’80s.

Michelle Pfeiffer and Susanne Bier have joined the brilliant and incomparable Viola Davis to bring the remarkable stories of these women into urgent, engrossing and long overdue focus,” said Amy Israel, executive vp scripted programming at Showtime. “Michelle brings authenticity, vulnerability and complexity to all her roles, and Susanne is a visionary director who commands the screen with fierce honesty and a singular visual style. With these formidable artists in front of and behind the camera, we couldn’t be more thrilled — especially at this unique moment in time for our nation — about the powerful promise of The First Lady.”

Michelle is among the many actors who have admitted to regretting one of their past roles.

Sandra Bullock Describes What 'Bird Box' Creatures Looked Like in a Deleted Scene

Sandra Bullock‘s new Netflix movie Bird Box has been generating so much buzz since its release a week ago and everyone wants to know what the creatures in the film look like.

We never once get to see the creatures, though we’re given a clue based on drawings we see mid-way in the film. Nearly all characters who see the creatures go crazy and kill themselves, though there are some who can see them and stay alive.

Now, Sandra is opening up about a deleted scene in which the creature was actually shown.

“It was a green man with a horrific baby face,” she told Bloody Disgusting. “It was snake-like, and I was like, ‘I don’t want to see it when it first happens. Just bring it into the room. We’ll shoot the scene.’ I turn and he’s like this [growling at me.] It’s making me laugh. It was just a long fat baby.”

Susanne Bier, the film’s director, explained why the scene was deleted.

“It so easily becomes funny. We actually shot that and spent a lot of energy on, but every time I saw it, I was like this is not going to be tense. It’s just going to be funny,” she said. “At first, Sandy was like, ‘I don’t want to see it’ because she thought it was scary. Then it was like, ‘Don’t show it to me because [I’ll laugh].’ Every time I did it, I was like, ‘Shit, that’s a different film.’”

Jennifer Lawrence to Star in 'The Rules of Inheritance'

Jennifer Lawrence has landed her next project – the upcoming film The Rules of Inheritance!

The 22-year-old actress will be directed by Susanne Bier, who she just worked with on the film Serena. The film is based on Claire Bidwell Smith‘s memoir about “a young woman who loses her family but finds herself in the process,” according to Deadline.

“We are thrilled to be working with the dream team of Jennifer Lawrence, Susanne Bier, [screenwriter] Abi Morgan and [producer] Bruce Cohen. We have no doubt that this inspirational and hopeful book will be turned into an emotionally powerful movie that audiences around the world will fall in love with,” FilmNation’s Glen Basner and Aaron Ryder said in a statement.

Jennifer, Susanne, Abi and I are incredibly excited to be working on this extraordinary project together. We all believe this film can strike a deeply resonant chord with audiences, just as Claire‘s riveting memoir has,” Bruce added.
