Chicago Fire is coming back soon, One Chicago family!

The show – and all the One Chicago shows – have been renewed for the 2023-2024 season on NBC, and will return sometime in early 2024 for a shortened 13-episode season following the conclusion of Hollywood strikes.

“I’m pleased to continue my four-decade relationship with Universal Television and NBC,” One Chicago creator Dick Wolf said in a statement.

While there are still very few details about the plot of Season 12, we do know who is expected to return, including one person who is leaving after the season ends.

Taylor Kinney is coming back to Chicago Fire!

The 42-year-old actor will be returning for Season 12 of the hit NBC series, Variety confirmed on Tuesday (October 31).

There was some question about whether Taylor would be returning after his abrupt exit from Season 11.

NBC has just revealed the details of Taylor Kinney and Jesse Spencer‘s future on Chicago Fire.

Fans will recall that Taylor, who plays Kelly Severide in the long-running series, took a step back from the show earlier this season.

During his absence, Jesse Spencer, who left the series last season, was brought back for a one episode appearance.

Now, the network is revealing what’s in store for the two.

An original star of Chicago Fire is returning to the show later this season!

Jesse Spencer will be back on the NBC series at the end of season 11 to fill in for fellow original star Taylor Kinney, who is taking a leave of absence from the long-running show.

The 44-year-old actor, who played Matt Casey for the first 10 seasons, left during the beginning of season 10 to focus more on his family. The character went to Oregon and committed to a three-year stint at a new job.

Chicago Fire has revealed the reasoning behind Severide’s departure in the latest episode, which aired on Wednesday, March 1, on NBC.

It was revealed last month that Taylor Kinney will be taking a leave of absence from NBC’s long-running series Chicago Fire and a new report claims that his final episode may have already aired.

The 41-year-old actor stars as Lieutenant Kelly Severide on the drama series and he’s been with the show since season one.

The initial report claimed Taylor is taking time off from the show to deal with a “personal matter.” Scripts had to be rewritten to address Severide’s absence from remaining episodes this season and it’s unclear when he might return, if he is going to return at all.
