Westworld‘s Jeffrey Wright has officially been cast in The Batman and his role has been revealed.

Matt Reeves, director of the film, confirmed that Jeffrey will take on the role of Commissioner James Gordon in the movie.

News first broke last month that Jeffrey was in talks for a role in the movie, but it took all this time to confirm.

Jonah Hill No Longer in Talks to Star in 'The Batman'

Jonah Hill has moved on from starring in The Batman.

After it was reported last month that the 35-year-old actor was in talks to star as a villain in the upcoming Matt Reeves-directed movie, Jonah has decided not to take on the role, Variety reports.

It was also being reported that Jonah‘s role was originally in the very early stages of negotiations, and that the deal was far from closing.

The news comes just a few days after it was announced that Zoe Kravitz will be taking on the role of Selina Kyle aka Catwoman in the upcoming movie that stars Robert Pattinson as Batman.

Robert Pattinson Picked to Play 'The Batman'! (Report)

Robert Pattinson reportedly won the battle to become the next Batman!

Reports surfaced earlier in the month that Robert and Nicholas Hoult were both in contention for the role in the upcoming The Batman among other frontrunners, but the 33-year-old Twilight actor has reportedly been approved by Warner Bros. for the role according to Deadline on Friday (May 31).

Pattinson has been considered a front runner because the filmmaker liked him, but the studio was torn between him and Nicholas Hoult, and wanted both of the actors on tape because this is such a big decision on a cornerstone Warner Bros DC franchise. Those meetings happened yesterday, I’m told, and the decision was made. Hoult, who starred in Tolkien and is about to reprise in X-Men: First Class, was impressive, but Pattinson will be the guy and negotiations will get underway any moment…expect an announcement imminently,” the report reads.

The Matt Reeves-directed movie is set to be released in June of 2021.

Armie Hammer as Batman? That Rumor May Not Be True After All!

A rumor spread this week that Armie Hammer was rumored to be in talks to star as Batman in the upcoming standalone film The Batman, taking over the role from Ben Affleck.

Armie himself apparently just told Yahoo UK, “No one who can actually give me the job has asked me if I’m interested. I don’t even know if they’re done – I think they’re still working on a script. I don’t think that they’re close to production but I can conclusively tell you that no one has checked my availability, which is a bummer.”

In addition, two entertainment writers from other mags are now saying that rumor isn’t true.

“I’m not in the business of debunking bunk but considering everyone got in a tizzy over this…there is no truth to the below. Being told there haven’t even been any actor meetings for THE BATMAN. (But that doesn’t mean Reeves and WB don’t have ideas of who they would like),” THR writer Borys Kit tweeted.

Variety writer Justin Kroll also added, “Yeah, that BATMAN rumor is false. That said, potential for this week to be very interesting on a number fronts. Sleep tight.”

If you don’t know, we asked our readers who they wanted to see play Batman and the overwhelming majority voted for Outlander‘s Sam Heughan.

'The Batman' Gets 2021 Release Date & Will Not Star Ben Affleck!

The Batman just got a release date!

The upcoming installment in the Batman series will be hitting theaters on June 25, 2021, Deadline reported on Wednesday (January 30).

Matt Reeves will write and direct the film, which will not star Ben Affleck as the leading superhero after portraying Batman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League.

The reason is because this movie will focus on “a younger Bruce Wayne.”

“Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life,” Ben tweeted when the news was announced.
