'The Queen's Gambit' Is Being Turned Into a Musical!

Fans of the The Queen’s Gambit have some exciting news to look forward to.

The production company Level Forward has purchased the theatrical rights to Walter Tevis‘ novel of the same name and are currently developing a musical adaptation of the popular Netflix show.

The company has previously worked on the Alanis Morrissette musical Jagged Little Pill and Jeremy O’HarrisSlave Play.

The Queen’s Gambit was a huge hit for Netflix and became the streamer’s most watched limited series in November 2020.

The show, which follows an orphan named Beth Harmon who becomes a chess prodigy, has also won a number of awards, with star Anya Taylor-Joy winning a Critic’s Choice Award and the Golden Globe award for Best Actress.

Level Forward’s CEO Adrienne Becker and producer Julia Dunetz said in a statement, “It is a privilege for Level Forward to lead the charge of bringing The Queen’s Gambit to the stage through the beloved and enduring craft of musical theater. Told through a brave and fresh point of view, audiences are already sharing in the friendship and fortitude of the story’s inspiring women who energize and sustain Beth Harmon’s journey and ultimate triumph. The story is a siren call amidst our contemporary struggles for gender and racial equity, and we’re looking forward to moving the project forward.”

Last month, Anya revealed what she thought about a potential second season of the show.

Anya Taylor-Joy Shares Idea for a 'Queen's Gambit' Season 2

The Queen’s Gambit has become one of Netflix’s most successful shows of all time, but there are no plans right now to make a second season.

If another season of the show were to be greenlit, star Anya Taylor-Joy does have some ideas on what could possibly happen.

“It’s so surreal and very wonderful that people want a second season, because we never thought about it, there was no discussion about it,” Anya said in a new interview with Deadline. “That said, never say ‘never’ in Hollywood.”

On her hopes for Beth Harmon’s future in a possible second season, Anya said, “It would be very interesting to see how Beth would be as a mother, now that she’s sober and more cognizant of the demons that pull her down.”

Anya just received nominations from the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards, and the Critics’ Choice Awards for her work on the show.

Anya Taylor-Joy Reveals What She Knew About Chess Before Starring in 'The Queen's Gambit'

Anya Taylor-Joy is opening up about how she didn’t know anything about chess before starring as a chess prodigy on the hit Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit.

The 24-year-old actress talked about her lack of chess knowledge during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which will air on Friday (December 4).

“I knew that there was a board and that there were pieces, but that was pretty much it,” Anya told Ellen about her knowledge of chess prior to playing Beth Harmon.

Anya added, “I’m so glad that my introduction came from such incredible people and such wonderful teachers.”

When asked if she still plays chess, Anya said, “I do. I have a beautiful chess set so it would be a shame if I wasn’t using it. But I’m excited to play some more over Christmas.” Ellen said that people might be intimidated to play her and she responded, “Well, hopefully, because if they actually play me they’ll see I’m not as good as Beth and that would be mildly embarrassing.”

Anya recently opened up about her appearance and why she thinks she’s “weird-looking.”

FYI: Anya is wearing Rock + Raw necklaces.
