'Stillwater' Director Reacts to Amanda Knox's Comments On The Movie

Amanda Knox made headlines this week after she noticed how the new movie Stillwater was eerily similar to her own life story.

The 34-year-old was convicted and then eventually acquitted of the murder of her former roommate Meredith Kercher in 2007.

Stillwater actually centers on American oil-rig roughneck (Matt Damon) who travels to Marseille, France to visit his estranged daughter (Abigail Breslin), who is in prison for a murder she claims she did not commit.

After reading her and comments, direct Tom McCarthy has responded to them.

Ben was joined at the festival’s Filmmakers Party on Day 2 by Mariska Hargitay, Bobby Cannavale and Mike Birbiglia, where they all helped honor Tom McCarthy.

“Tom McCarthy for me epitomizes the kind of smart and emotional character-oriented storyteller that movie industry needs today,” Ben said (via IndieWire). “I think it’s important – in this day of huge, effects-driven franchises – to support and celebrate human stories that don’t center on aliens or robots.”

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon sandwich in their pal John Krasinski for a photo at the live-read event of Good Will Hunting on Friday (October 7) at the NYU Skirball Center in New York City.

John directed the one-night-only event, which featured a surprise cast that wasn’t announced until the actors appeared on stage. Sadly, the event was not recorded so only the live audience was able to experience it.

Ben and Matt reprised their roles from the Oscar-winning movie and they were joined by John‘s wife Emily Blunt as Skylar, Margo Martindale as Sean Maguire, Daveed Diggs as Morgan, Tom McCarthy as Professor Lambeau, Keegan Michael-Key as Billy, Dave Shalansky as Tom, and Harvey Weinstein as the psychologist.

This definitely was a once in a lifetime event to be at!
