Cardi B Defends Dwyane Wade's 12-Year-Old Trans Daughter Zaya's Transition & References Lady Gaga! (Video)

Cardi B is speaking up in defense of Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union‘s daughter Zaya, who recently came out as transgender amid backlash and transphobic insults from some people, including stars like Young Thug.

“I feel like people are saying that this kid is too young to transition, but it’s like, how old is too young? If you are born thinking that you are a girl in a boy’s body, how old do you have to be to keep knowing that’s who you are? That’s who you are, that’s your identity…what is the age limit to know that’s what you want to be?” she said.

She went on to explain that she watched a documentary about a young child’s transition.

“Whether the age that you pick it to be, it’s your choice…what’s the point of you being older and transitioning?” she went on to say.

“Let people find their happiness, especially kids. Let them feel comfortable doing what they want to be…a lot trans [people] that I know around me, when I ask them ‘when did you know that you wanted to change?’ They said, ‘I always felt like I was a girl. I was born like this.’ People are born like that, like the Lady Gaga song…that s–t is f–king real.”

“Don’t cut his d–k off, bruh. Like, bruh, for real, if he gon’ be gay, let him be gay. But don’t cut his d–k off, bruh. Don’t—and dress him as a woman, dawg. He’s 12 years old. Young Thug apparently takes issue with Dwyane Wade‘s 12-year-old daughter, Zaya, who recently went public with her transgender identity.

“All I wanna say to dwade son is ‘GOD DONT MAKE MISTAKES’ but hey live your true self,” Young Thug wrote, sparking immediate backlash in his replies.

“I’ve been a person in a locker room that has been a part of the conversation that has said the wrong phrases and the wrong words myself. As I got older and I watched my daughter grow, I had to go and look at myself in the mirror and say, ‘Who are you? What are you going to do if your child comes home and says, ‘Dad, I’m not a boy … I’m a trans girl.’ What are you going to do?’ That was my moment of real,” Dwyane said earlier in the day in an interview. Dwyane Wade Says Zaya Knew Her Gender Identity for 9 Years

Dwyane Wade is opening up further about his daughter Zaya coming out as transgender during his appearance on Good Morning America on Tuesday (February 18) in New York City.

“She’s known it for nine years. She’s known since she was three years old,” the 38-year-old former NBA star said during his appearance. “Along this way we’ve asked questions and we’ve learned. But she’s known.”

“I knew early on that I had to check myself,” he added. “That’s what I knew. I knew early on that I had to ask myself questions.”

“I’ve been a person in a locker room that has been a part of the conversation that has said the wrong phrases and the wrong words myself,” Dwyane said. “As I got older and I watched my daughter grow, I had to go and look at myself in the mirror and say, ‘Who are you? What are you going to do if your child comes home and says, “Dad, I’m not a boy … I’m a trans girl.” What are you going to do?’ That was my moment of real.”

“I think when the conversation we had — the one thing about it, for parents, is have conversations with your kids. Zaya, early on, knew two things. She knew straight and she knew gay. But Zaya started doing more research,” he continued.

“She is the one who sat down with us as a family and said, ‘Hey, I don’t think I’m gay.’ And she went down the list. ‘This is how I identify myself, this is my gender identity, I identify myself as a young lady. I think I’m a straight trans because I like boys.’ So it was a process for us to sit down with our daughter and find out who she is and what she likes, and not put something on her,” he added.

Dwyane Wade Explains Why He Went Public with Daughter Zaya's Journey

Dwyane Wade is opening up about his decision to go public with his daughter Zaya‘s journey.

The 38-year-old former professional basketball player and his wife Gabrielle Union‘s 12-year-old came out as transgender this week.

“Well, we’re not the only family that deals with all the things we’ve spoken about,” Dwyane told ET. “We’re not the only family that had to deal with surrogacy, to bring our daughter [Kaavia] into the world. We’re not the only family that’s had to deal with gender expression, gender identity, sexuality, with their child.”

“We understand the position we’ve been put in, especially in our community, and even though it’s not always a popular thing to speak out on issues that people are uncomfortable with or not as educated on, but this is the platform that God gave me and my family,” he continued. “So, we use it.”

“For me, it’s always about being able to adapt and being able to learn, and always being able to grow,” Dwyane added. “I think coming from the inner city of Chicago early on, I was kind of closed-minded on a lot of things. And I’ve been with my wife, traveling the world, meeting people, going to different places, I’ve learned to keep my mind open, keep my eyes open, keep my heart open, keep my thoughts open.”

“That’s what I’ve been trying to do as I’m growing into the man that I’ve always dreamed of becoming,” he said.

While speaking about his upcoming ESPN documentary, D. Wade: Life Unexpected, Dwyane shared, “I face a lot of different elements in the documentary, so whatever it is that speaks to you, hopefully, it’s something that you can pull from an inspiration to inspire, that would be ideal for me.”
